Then sTudenTs oT P.l-l.S. joined in an all-ouT eTTorT in a "clean- . up" To make sure ThaT noThing had been missed. An elaboraTe adverTising campaign sTarTed The "clean-up" wiTh enThusiasm. Glass iars. were arranged in The hall Tor.The purpose oT'keeping a record oT The number oT pounds oT scrap Turned in by each home room. As a magazine campaign was in progress aT The same Time, one black walnuT was used To represenT IOO pounds oT scrap and one whiTe walnuT was used To represenT Sl.OO collecTed Tor subscripTions. ' A S25 war bond was oTTered To The person selling The greaTesT number oT magazines and also one Tor The person collecTing The greaTesT number pounds of scrap. Second prize, in each case, was SIO cash wiTh The Third prize being 55. There were also ThirTy oTher prizes oTTered in each campaign. Those receiving awards Tor The magazine campaign were: IsT Prize, Billy Thornhill: 2nd Prize, David James: 3rd Prize. Earl Surber. Those receiving awards in The scrap drive were: IsT Prize, Alma June Collins: 2nd Prize, Bob WhiTmanq 3rd Prize, Bob STevens and lvlarie Tickle. Miss French's home room oT The high school and Miss PendelTon's room oT The grades were given all The nuTs as an award Tor having sold The greaTesT number oT magazines and collecTing The greaTesT number oT pounds oT, scrap. The campaign was in progress Tor Three weeks and sTudenTs during This Time sold over S700 worTh oT sub- scripTions, collecTed over 58,000 pounds oT scrap iron, over I.OOO pounds scrap rneTal. over I.OOO pounds scrap rubber and 500 pounds 'oT oTher scrap. 5IO vicfrola records were also collecTed.
