RADIO COMMUNICATICN Mr, Winkler The Radio Communications club, instructed by Mr. Winkler, consists of boys who are "Radio Hams" and are interested in making radio contacts. These boys spend their time with the transmitters and receivers in room 410, eighth hour every Mon- day. An exchange of Q. S. L. cards is made after the members make their radio contacts. Pulaski's station, which was is- sued to Mr. Winkler, is XV9UCl. POLISH CLUB Miss Philipkowski Tuesday is the day when Room 203 is alive with the informal formalities of the Polish Club. Its members sing Polish songs, have guest speakers and movies occa- sionally, and social events and pro- grams. They participate in Pulaski's Folk Fair and this year they sent two parcels of food to needy peo- ple. The club was organized to assist in the teaching of the Polish language, customs, and history of the Polish nation. SCIENCE CLUB Dorothy Ciric The purpose of the Science Club, under the direction of Dorothy Ciric, is to provide supervision and aid to those people who are inter- ested in some field of science. By exchanging ideas, those who are specializing in some particular field receive a better overall picture of how the fields work together. During club meetings experi- ments are performed, ideas ex- changed, and advice or more accurate information is obtained. Movies help to make some of the more difficult phases easier to un- derstand. 159

LIPESAVING CLUB Mr. Wielgosz This club, sponsored by Mr. Wielgtmsz, teaches boys water safe- ty and lifesaving procedures. It is open to all grades, ninth through twelfth, the ninth and tenth grad- ers trying for the junior Lifesaving Award, and the eleventh and twelfth graders for the Senior Lifesaving Award. To join the club an appli- cant must first pass a test comprised of: swimming three hundred yards for junior Lifesaving, and five hundred yards for Senior Lifesav- ing: executing the crawl, side, ele- mentary back and breast strokes: treading water for one and a half minutes, disrobing in the water: re- covering a ten pound weight in nine feet of water: and holding one's breath under water for twen- ty seconds. This training helps many boys to secure life guard positions, thus also earning money for their college educations. PUBLIC ADDRESS CREW Mr. Hull just like the sun, these cheerful people brighten Pulaski's day when they interrupt the silence of home- room period to bring us the morn- ing announcements over the Public Address System. These students are chosen each by the Student Service Council, under the guidance of Mr. Hall. They are judged on the basis of voice quality, and speaking abil- ity. From the many who try out for announcers, twenty are chosen. Two substitute members are also selected. 158 MODERN DANCING Mrs. Dougherty Modern Dancing under the di- rection of Mrs. Dougherty is also known as the Orchesis. The club meets in the girls' gym every Thurs- day, and it consists of about twenty girls. The girls put on a wonderful show called "Toy Shop" which was its main performance. They made their own costumes for this per- formance. The girls worked very hard to make this show a success- ful one.

COMMERCIAL SERVICE CLUB Miss Delia Lindsay The Commercial Service Club. under the direction of Miss Delia Lindsay, provides its members with an excellent background in the technical s kills so important to anyone who plans on entering the business world today. The mem- bers of the club cut stencils, oper- ate mimeograph machines, and im- prove their skills in typing. This group, which meets during the eighth hour every Monday, is open to all ambitious juniors and seniors who are anxious to become com- petent business men and women after graduation. SPANISH CLUB Miss Annette Flynn Pulaski's Spanish Club is under the leadership of Miss Annette Flynn. The activities of the club range from art and music to danc- ing, all with use of the Spanish language. Near the Christmas holi- days, the students sing carols and enjoy the colorful "Pinata". ln the spring, the parents of the mem- bers of the club are invited to learn of the customs of Spain and Mexi- co and hear Spanish songs. The officers of the Spanish Cluh are Kenneth Lavine, president, Nancy Kabut, vice-president, Cleo Smith, secretary, jean Winninger, treas- urer. 160 INDUSTRIAL ARTS SERVICE CLUB Mr. Schulz The purpose of the Industrial Arts Service Club during the se- mester is to help when help is needed. They construct the many props for the rallies, plays, and other school projects. ldeas were formulated and the drawings made during the first part of the week. On Thursday's and Friday's eighth hour the work is done on these ideas by fifteen boys in Mr. Schulz's Wfoodshop 4. The boys have the satisfaction of participating in and seeing the i r accomplished work. Various dances, plays, and indi- vidual school requests for repairs were serviced by this club. Plan- ning, drawing, estimating, and viewing with a sense of work well done were the principles of the club. 960689901
