Upsetting all previous predictions, and build-
ing up to a surprising climax, the 1953 Pulaski
football squad finished the season tie with Wash-
ington for first place in the city conference, with
seven wins and one loss.
Easily winning the opening game with Juneau,
19-0, the Ramblers met their only defeat of the
season, in their second game, with South, 19-6.
After losing to South, the Ramblers came back
to win three more games toward the champion-
ship by defeating Rufus King, 13-0, Lincoln, 27-
135 and North, at the North Stadium, 24-12.
In the homecoming game played with our south-
side rivals, Bay View, who were rated over Pulaski
by seven points, the Ramblers defeated the Red-
cats, 12-0. The two touchdowns were made by
Bradley Splinter. The two tries for the extra
points were blocked. Our victory over Bay View
entitles us to keep the traditional Wooden Foot-
ball. Because of a new practice instituted this year,
the winning team now receives the trophy.
Pulaski kept alive its slim hopes for winning
the city championship by scoring a fourth quarter
touchdown to beat West, 7-0. Leading up to the
score, George Cwiklowski p a s s e d to Thomas
Walecki giving the Ramblers a first down on the
West 17 yard line. Cwiklowski and Bradley
Splinter powered the ball to the 6 yard line, but
a penalty set the Ramblers back to the 20. George
Cwiklowski passed to Richard Knuth for the
