Boosting the morale of the team and diligently increasing school spint. the cheerleaders fabulously danced, sang, and chanted their way through an exciting year The groups of voluptuous, saucy wenches increased in size this year as 2 more girls were added to the JV squad and a whole new sophomore squad was formed The girls all actively participated in rallying spint at all the football and basketball games, as well as wrestling matches and pep assemblies Determination was added to enthusiasm as the cheerleading class was cancelled after first semester, moving all rehearsals to after school The attitude remained good, though, and the girls altered personal plans to fit the new schedule. The cheerleaders were much appreciated by the end of their busy year Nani Uluave Colette Hickman Janet Nielson Sheri Alexander A much welcome addition 1o the regular cheerleading pep and dance squads, Dancetera continued to gain respect and acclaim dunng its second year in existence The squad was directed by the exciting new Karen Brown, who managed to teach English full time and choreograph the group, all dunng her first pregnancy Dunng the previous summer, the group attended workshops at U5U. learning about dancing, choreography, and performing Their attendance was obviously not in vain, as was evident from the cheers and pnde that they evoked whenever they let their presence be known 28 First row, left to right: i Second row: Co C oā IV . - Third row: ki Duncan Laura Brothwe Fourth row: Tnna Pnce. Mr. Last Talked about in hushed tones and revered by students and community alike. Mr Last remained an enigma to many students at the school Slipping quietly from class to class, he played the part of a good shepherd, always keeping a watchful eye over his flocks Fear filled the hearts of those who were to meet Mr Last for the first time, but those who had already been through it would agree that not only was he an effective and efficient administrator, but a personal fnend and advocate of the students His approval of school activities, while sometimes tacit, was always felt Mr Last was committed first and foremost to education, but always made it a point to attend all events at the school and to personally congratulate students on their accomplishments Perhaps that is why Mr Last will be one of the many Last '-ing memones of Provo High School Mr. Last greets T.H. Bell. United States Secretary of Education. 108 Mr. Oroesbeck If confronted with the fact, many students would not admit to having liked Mr Oroesbeck. although everyone did He had the coveted job of maintaining order and discipline in the ranks and. much like the light which reflected from his slightly balding pate. Mr Oroesbeck reflected the policies of the administration Mr Oroesbeck stayed in shape by running after and rounding up students all day everyday, not an easy task His swift hand of justice dealt fairly with truants and saints alike, leaving no one in doubt as to who was in charge. But through all this, his warm, fnendly personality showed constantly, making everyone realize that he wasn't the hard guy that he pretended to be. Mr. Henshaw Bringing with him his Lehi accent and the perfect analogy for all situations (so we heard). Vernon Henshaw slipped quietly into the Three Stooges club at the beginning of the year, hoping to fill the vacancy lei) by Mr Poulsen He was an immediate success, probably because he provided the students with an opportunity to use the favorite line. Hey. Mr Henshaw settled in quickly, gaining new resped every day for the way in which he smoothly earned out the duties of his office 109 SCHOOL BOARD Standing: Olen Brown. David Weight. SECRETARIES 114 LIBRARY A home for wayward students is what one student called it dunng the year, and he just may have spoken the truth The library was a retreat from reality Students from all walks of the school dropped by for a rest or to study It was definitely the hot spot of the Bulldog world Classes met there, cliques met there, everyone who was anyone met there. Studying was the main reason the library was there and. admittedly, once in a while some actually went on. Students loved to hassle the beeper at the door, though, or join in a rousing chorus of She's Mrs Heat Miser. She's Mrs Sun. when things got droll Throwing M M s at each other was another favonte activity But aside from pleasure, the library really was a neat place Books galore lined the shelves, creative bulletin boards adorned the entrance. librarians bustled about helping students with grandmotherly care and the Shakespeare Birthday Celebration Limenc Contest was a big hit among the students 5 LUNCH LADIES Feeding the multitudes is not an easy task, but because we had and every school day. proving themselves to be the best when they such great lunchladies. feeding the multitudes was just another daily won a national award for their lunches Hooray for culinary cuties! task taken in stnde These gourmet women cooked up a storm each CUSTODIANS Working two shifts, from ? 30 in the morning to 5 00 at night, our custodians keep the school spotless. With the huge success of the BYU football team, it became a fad. or at least less embarrassing. to associate with them. The Reagan Bush campaign also became the in thing among up-and-coming political minds. 501 Levi jeans and a T-shirt were as popular as ever The cowboys wore boots, hats, horse manure, and their trademark belts Some even (God forbid1} wore sweaters The preppies and yuppies were better dressed than the regular people (at least that's all we noticed), and the hard rockers (or concert T-shirt people) wore their concert T-shirts and long hair Girls wore jeans, dress pants, or dresses: anything went, except for polyester, which was definitely out With androgyny reigning freely, the distinguishing factor between the girls and guys came more from their minds and the music they listened to than the clothes they wore Overall, the incoming fashions were Guess Product jeans, shirts, etc ( the fluorescent people. said one student).
