STATISTICIANS REPORT I, Kathleen Morris, having been chosen by my classmates as statistician, shall attempt to uphold this honorable position by giving you an analysis of the class of 1953. To begin with, the height of our girls averages five feet four inches. Of course our shortest girl is Carol lean Taggart and our tallest is Lula Coles. Our boys average five feet eight inches in height, while our shortest boy is Willie F, lones, our tallest is Iesse Ormond. The average weight of the girls is ll8 pounds but the boys average 135. We have no fat girls or fat boys: however Permelia Harris is our heaviest girl and Carol l. Taggart is our lightest, Ernest McCray weighs more than any other boy and Willie F. Iones probably weighs less than the others. Now you see we are guite normal physicallyg so far as ages are concerned, most of us will graduate at the age of 18. Though some will finish at 16, others will be twenty-one plus. Our class leads the honor roll with the largest number of honor students represented, however, Lewis Gist has kept his average a four-year secret. More of us were born in November and December than in any other months. I don't know whether our first cold reception has anything or not to do with the fact we all hate to get up on cold mornings. fThe detention room has just about cured us of this.J Literature and Algebra are our favorite subjects. Although one-half of the girls voted Driver Education. Cadillacs and Chryslers are desired by the majority of this famous class with the exception of Harriet Kirksey who definitely prefers the Drivers Chevy Nat King Cole and Lula Reed are definitely our top singers There are certain girls still trying to convince the unromantic boys that they dance best to Earl Bostics soft music Although Mary Reid and Marshall Smith are still trying to find a step to keep up with Spikes live lm Gone and l Dont Know were voted favorite songs The fav rite pastimes of the girls are reading dating going to the movies and looking at Television Permelia has practically convinced us that Ernest is her only pastime We also voted dancing as our top pastime Further proof of this you will find at the Varsity Inn People s Choice and the Youth Center The boys prefer shooting pool and when asked why they said with pool they do Win sometimes but in dating and taking C ASS The Class of 53 began its high school career with 85 toyful freshmen Freshman' This title which had been longed for since grammar school was now ours We were well acquainted with our fellow students and Price High School for we had completed the eighth grade here Our teachers were Miss Hayes Mrs Walker and Mr Nicholson As freshmen we participated in all school activities We also won many honors Elaine Sands won the Citizenship Award During our sophomore year we really beamed Marian Roberts was Miss Penny Oueen and Henry Watson was voted the Most Courteous Boy in the band Clara Milton won first plac in the Annual Solo contest and Russell Tate won second place There were many other honors awarded too numerous to mention We also gained two new members Larry Wilson fr m R A Clement Higlc School and Iesse Corry from Landis North Caro ina Our teachers were Mr Lancaster and Mr Olds After a very suc essful sophomore year we became Proud Iuniors Mr Lancaster one of our tenth grade advisors liked our class so well that he decided to be one of our Iunior advisors and with the aid of Miss Powers our other advisor nothing was too great or too small for us to tackle We acined one new stu dent Iohn Scott from Morningside in Statesville l.GVMlS Gist and Kathleen Morris were also added to our roll Our class president wa limr Bridges and Ca l Taggart was nice president The most exciting evert of the year was the Pram With the aid of our advis rs w gave the best P nt in the history of Pr' e High School O r de eration includcd a large ship in the eiv d avcrs and had refreshments Tnat most qlCI1'JL1S even v il ri ld t ndcr me es o all of us ars 're At tri new n our a mi dle of our gym On d l' :Je dan ec 'lla EV9l fl' ne nts are at al d and su ' rs L ncaster and i n an: s s r tresident vitc t ands f sistar camc Scrior urdcr aking N it t'i o ia' we easy but v e n v f eeacd We beta ne c bio h i iarni 1 M Miller a ting a 1 t tnib r 'ri the girls to the movies they lose both by finance and the four letter word. lesse Corry and Oscar Harris will not miss the movie when such Academy Award stars as Tom and Ierry and Bugs Bunny are playing, Tony Curtis and Marilyn Monroe were voted as our favorite movie stars, with the exception of Esther Williams' fans. Naturally the Pet Peeve among the girls is being stood up. Some boys are still undecided. Hodge Evans despises girls who slap, and Larry Wilson hates making a date and having no one to keep it with him. lf you happen to drop by the homes of my classmates who own Televisions, you will probably find them engaged in their favorite program, l Love Lucy, The Comedy Hour, and the Arthur Godfrey program and programs showing sports. The radio fans favor the H1490 Club and the Platter Party. Al- though Elaine Sands and your humble servant are Lux Theater fans. Fried chicken and steaks are tops with the girls and boys. Donald Gist and Hulon Butler declare a good cure for hunger is souse meat, crackers, and sardines. The girls keep swcet by eating 5th Avenues and Mounds On the other hands the boys keep sweet by tasting samples from the girls. Turtle neck sweaters and dungarees are favorite fashions for us, while our cool male classmates prefer Tams and Sport clothes. Our teeth and ta tvs are exercised daily by talking and chew ing Beech Nut gum with the exception of Delores Robertson who xcrcises brtt r with Bubbl Gum The girls go around thanking you half to death which in cidentally is their favorite saying Whtle the cool males are still tryina to find out Whats the happenings? On Sunday mornings the majority of the class are found in the Metlooaist and Baptist Churches You will find the next largest numoc in ne Presbyterian Church Still yet others attend various denominational churches All in all statistics prove that this is by far the best class in this history of Price High School So say We all KATHLEEN MORRIS HISTORY During October we were invited along with a hundred other schools to A 6 T College as their guest This trip was enyoyed by all lt also made us more aware of the fact that we soon would iave to find our life s task We as Seniors sparkled like the stars in the sky On the ootb ll sguad ten of the big eleven were Seniors They are Oscar Harris Ernest McCray lesse Ormond William Cowan Larry Wilson William Hickman lames Bridges Iohn Scott Henry Wat son and George Alexander ln November 1952 we won the State Football Championship game by defeating Patillo High School of Tarbcro North Carolina George Alexander Larry Wilson and Iohn Scott had the grand opt ortunity to visit North Carolina College Campus in Durham as ues' of the College Though I e did not win the Miss Price contest our representa wc t r Miss Price Miss Evelyn Boge was second in the contest Pu mg the first semester or our Senior ye r five members of our class gave a concert They were Clara Milton Henry Watson Iohn Scott lesse Ormond and Iames Bridges Two members of our cl ss Clara Milton and Ka hleen Morris x on first and second places for having best essays on Fire Pre xr-nton Carol Taggart also won recognition in the Voice of Den cracy cont st as a wiiner from Price High S noel VVe are also very yroud t be well represented cn both the iils and boy Baskrtball teams Delores Davis is the Captain futn Mary Neal Monfiomery and Lillian Cowans as cc workers Hul ri Bul cr is the hignest scorer and he Larry Wilson and Iames Bridges have made an excellent showing V o a in d latzr in he ar f ur new members frorn the nicht V l l ss They are Mrs Marv Elizab th Walker Mrs Th l Vrs Sarah H fl an Mrs Laetitia A L vi a on rw s iden' Tam-fs B Rectern t ies er Scrti rs fic have su passed all hardships an unaer kings r u May we take lies hardships as gre ful as the it orfor us so far We hope that as gradtiat s of Price S rc a e's on i PC V-1tTr-.CC RT is Us ' , . . . . - . .r ' e s S e e . t H , tt . - . , I . , . ft . .t if t fi V. t it ' ' A ' - o ' ' ' ' 1 ' , ' .
