DAY DREAMS What is so dull as a day in school Whe a soft breeze blows and the day is fair When the robin and bluebird and crow come back And the old swimming hole seems to beckon y u there? Ther you sit and s gh and with wistful eyes Which see rot the room or the blackboard or book And it seems you can hear a small stream singing by And you lone f r a rod and a line and a hook You remember the tramp through the woods with your Dad Last sprirg when all nature seemed throbbing with song And the dinner you cooked and the fun that you had How you xy andered and laughed and talked all the day l ng There reath the blie sky so clear ard so br gh Par away from the wearisome toil of school You forget about presidents and mag, cts and nouns Qoncruent triar les a d classi om rules How monotonous the drcne of the voices around you When you lust sit and dream for tnree thirty to come When you re free for the day and your lessons are done Then suddenly a teacher looms up before you Then a hurried tumble for pencil ard book But you realize too late that lf u as y ur u doing, When you glance up t meet a stern teacher s cold look Then back you mind flies to the old black rail fence Ard the black horr ts nest that you sort of disturbed H yy they darted out buzzing a d aimim, right for you Ard the stings that yoi felt' On e tW1 e and a third' Oh what is so dull as a day in school When all natu e s ir blccm and the skies are all clear Ther yye all lust sit tight and wait and wait Tor the div xy ren school s out for another year' BARBARA WFTRQ v- -.- r ' - ' A- v . .
