BIG HEARTED HERBERT The humorous drama Big Hearted Herbert was presented by the mem- bers of the Presque Isle High School Faculty on December 11, 1939, in the new high school auditorium. A special performance was enjoyed during the afternoon of December 11 by various high school and grammar school students. The general performance was at night. Because of its great success and wide appeal, a second presentation was requested and was given on the night of Jan- uary 15, 1940. PADWA NOTED PIANIST GIVES RECITAL Friday evening February 9 1940 the people of Presque Isle and neigh boring towns were very fortunate to hear and see Vladmir Padwa who pre sented a pxanoforte recital in the high school auditorium Padwa is a well known concert pianist and his recital was to benefit the Finnish people A large audience responded and every one left knowing that he had heard a w n derful pianist who will in time undoubtedly be compared with the greatest musicians LATIN CLUB Two meetmgs of the Latin Club were held this year in the old auditorium of the high school and one in the new gymnasium The following officers were elected Consuls Carolynn Parkhurst Christine Mc ean Praetcr Leo Daigle Quaeston Mary Hayes Curule Aediles Luise Cambridge Ardis Wilkins Junior Aedxles Robert Graves Malcolm Mooers Sophomores Aediles Madge Bates Dorothy Wentworth Freshmen Aediles Olive Ellis Barbara Weick Esther Osgood Fred Sprague A successful meeting was held at Christmas time during which gifts and candy were brought by the students and delivered by Santa Frank Sawyer and his assistant Sidney Graves A play Aeneas and Did which is being pre pared to be given sometime in April has the following cast Aeneas Malcolm Mooers Dido Ardis Wilkins Ascanius Mary Hayes Iarbas Anna Robert Graves Carolvnn Parkhurst Jupiter ............................... ..,, ....... . ....................... .... ...... .... ...... CHAPEL PROGRAMS This year in the new auditorium a series of most interesting chapels have been held on Wednesday mornings from eight ocl ck until nine We thank all those who have performed though it IS impossible of course to mention every cne We wish to express our appreclation to Elrzabeth Johnson from the Nor mal School who sang two vocal solos Lillian Glidden and Eldora Allen our own outstanding sopranos pianist Natalie Thomas who has helped to make several programs a success and our music director Mr Lewis whose piano technique is the envy of his audience Then there are the Johnston duets featur mg Joyce and Sylvia and those tenors Johnny Willette and Dana Packard Jackie McCormick and Gloria Brown entertained us with an original tap dance and Gloria also gave a humorous reading Travel talks and movmg pictures f South America were presented by Jimmy and Alice Moore and many of us are still puzzled over the tricks of the magician Mr Leigh A recent Professor Quiz pr gram concerning semiclassical music titles was conducted in which Miss Dmgwall played the piano and Mr Page was the Professor The contestants were Charles Dudley Robert Smith Barbara Stone Wesley Hussey Charles Carpen ter the w1nner Storer Parsons Mary Hayes Lillian Glidden Barbara Packard Jo n Stevens Christopher Carrier Sidney Graves Last but y no means least the accomplished Ruth T ormg of Or no Maine entertained us with a few ac cordran solos ONE ACT PLAYS On the evening of Pebruary 6 1940 three one act plays were presented in the hgh s hool auditorlum under the direction of Miss Drngwall The admis s on charged was ten cents f r students and twenty five cents for adults An ap prcciative audience attended The following students were included in the casts Modern Cinderella Natalie Thomas Sidney Graves Walter Nevers Patricia Long Carolynn Parkhurst Jean Junkins Margery Benjamin Maxine Gould and Ardis Wilkins.
