FARE FOR THE MORGUE Well to begln with I drive a cab for the Checker Taxi Company It was about eleven thirty on Tuesday night I was cruising down Lexlngton hunting for a fare tbusrness had been dull that dayl when a man hailed me from in front of Tony s Bar He was a little unsteady I noticed but then that wasnt unusual at this time of night He was dressed like most other rich men of the day tux garters fine black overcoat and high silk hat I guess he was about twenty five with black well kept hair a strong tan face and a powerful frame He didnt seem to me the sort that one would expect to find at Tony s and when he said he wanted to go to 227 Baker Street I gave up thats the toughest dis trrct in town vou see We had only covered about four blocks when he knocked on my wmdow and said Never mmd that last address take me to the nearest hosprtal and hurry I cculd see then he was in a bad way so I gave er the gun hoping we wouldnt meet any cops Well when I fmally got to the Fuller Hospital he was stone dead There was absolutely no sign of 1dent1f1cat1 n on him and no one rn at Tony s had ever seen him oefcre For weeks we watched the papers for news of missing men and checked every clue We found nothlng That s all I know Robert Graves 41 WILDCATS OF 1940 To this winning team we take off our hats H means Hunter a great captain is he Each of the boys like him hopes to be C as we know for Curtis does stand Since he s on the lineup we go in a band T means great forward of fam us renown For Thomas who never has let us down S is for Southard he s sure a great shot When the old ball comes round he s there on the spot M begins Malcolm and Mooers tis true We ll always remember him the fans will too On the Subs lineup we ve no reason for shame These boys each one have made a good name We shall start with Tompkins a great center we know And tell you of five boys in the Substitute row W begins Wwllette a singing Wildcat of fame In basket ball and radio hell sure play the game For Garland G stands and for guard also In this and years after he ll make a good show S will be Stubbs a great helper he s been On the Old Sub s bench with five good men We give th ee Cheers for Wes Hussey who s game On the Wildcats next year h gh may he reign To Coach Bill Hanscom we will vote our c ngrats For such fine trarnxn of our P I Wildcats And hope that 41 will help us to cheer A team that is as good as that of last year Jean M Bull 43 1 1 - ' 1 - - 1 ' Y I l ' 1 1 1 1 1 ' ' I ' I i .
