L This school year 1959-1960 represented two events of enormous historical significance for our community - the Preble Centennial fSeptember 5-6, 19595 and the forrnal opening of the St. Lawrence Seaway fApril, 19595 enabling the Port of Green Bay to benefit from an in- creased volume of foreign and domestic shipping. The first foreign vessel to arrive at Green Bay via the Seaway was the Swedish ship, Erholm on May 6, 1959 - there were 90 this first year. The last arrival for the season was November 25, 1959. The overseas commercial imports were 31, 524 tons EB i Prix Ulm!-K Knot including domesticy which was an A increase of 75 per cent over the pre- I- . - vious year. The Preble debaters of this year argued and discussed this proposition - Resolved: That the Federal Government should substantially increase its control of Labor Unions. It was a thought - provoking topic, and all concerned gained a great deal of information on a most vital issue. The main purpose of a debate group is to provide the student with a greater knowledge amd aware- ness of contemporary problems. It helps the student by giving further experience and training in gather- ing information and evidence, the use of reflective thought, analyzing problems, searching for possible solutions, and evaluating those solutions. It gives the student practical experience in speaking and using language effectively to present ideas clearly. ' 4' NORTHEASTERN WISCONSIN DEBATE CHAMPS M. Bins H. Showers M. David R. Led by the shooting of Mitchell, the rebounding of Kulk and the aggressiveness of Tuttle and Noel, the Jayvees did well in conference competition, but fared not too well with non-conference opponents. u ss W 910013 vmvwwcx v G PUIIIZJS Q IUUJU1 l DIUZO EW aqolw I ua ng M uzopaog q nismaog 3 .?W'8 ' USU 90 'M '1aSeuew 'aans T' 3 nisnazamyl V euueyiow f g aoN 71 Ja :-mqog .L 9q9IlS 9 9111119 .9 H9903 MOH I 'SUHIQJQ apnog -G 'K ueA ua3ue1uap X F1 90 UUJ soqq 9 9 ame ag Q W I MOH GNODHS 19 H OA CI U9P UHU :apue A AVU I 'PU0 M 2 uejua Y-1 . 1 c: E. 5' F' 4 aa 5 o Z4 3 01 119 MOH WO.I..I.OH a ameaq Q 1 I sump d ,L 'lamsxag 3 uosuqof 51 nqsnouzou 3 1' 'uaxpag -U1 'G 1951398991-I 'H 'U!3Ill90'1 Khbm-1 gbffl'-1 u suoos M ploy nm pue plone: aauaxaguoo e as A 'puoAvuapueA smouzog 'H 'xavqoesaag -3 'm 'cl 0.1. .Ld HDR!
