I6 February l988 To the Men of PREBLE: Those of you who worked our ship up for deployment and deployed with the SARATOGA Battle Group to the Mediterranean and Black Sea can iustifiably look back and remember your achievements with pride. It was you who established PREBLE's reputation on the Water Front and you who gave her the Battle Readiness at sea. When we first started preparing PREBLE for forward deployment, we knew it was going to be a tough job that left no room for a "tracking run". We arose to each occasion, more aggressive, more mature than before. We shared the obli- gation, the pride, the privilege of serving our Nationand our Navy when called to go forward. This book is dedicated to you, the men of PREBLE, and illustrates how we worked and played as a team and how we met the challenges and over- came. It was through each of your efforts, hard work and fierce determination and pride that on I7 November I987 we returned home knowing we had done our job and that we were the best. To the families, relatives. friends and supporters we left behind, we owe a great deal of gratitude and thanks. Your prayers, letters. and good wishes sustain- ed us and saw us through. To each PREBLEMAN. I offer my personal and sincere appreciation and congratulations for a tough and demanding deployment. Well done! Good luck and smooth sailing, .6 PETER W. BULKELEY Commander, U.S. Navy Commanding Officer XX
