Dr.Mmam1...w., Why do students have to go to Chicago for Bible training? Why isn't there a Bible School in the East? These were the questions many Christians were asking in the days when Moody Bible Institute was the only school of its kind in America. These questions glijlpped the soul of thevyoung evangelist, Rev. John A. Davis. While a student at oody, he had been r. Moody's personal attendant. Now a successful revivalist himself, Mr. Davis was in a campaign in Hazleton, Penna. While in prayer, a vision came to him that he should found a Bible School in the East. Receiving a letter that same evening, he discovered that it contained a dollar bill and a brief note: I am a washerwoman in Horseheads, N. Y. God has placed a burden upon your heart-this small gift is for that ose Believing this to be a sign from his Lord, Mr. Davis dedicated him- purp . A h self to this great undertaking. ' ' ed in 1900' in rooms over a store in Practical Bible Tramin School open Lestershire Qlohnson Cityg, N. Y. Soon these rooms were too small and even a new building they were able to erect was outgrown, so Mr. Davis began thrusting about for larger quarters. The ideal spot Quin God's chosen place j presented itself in the form of The White Cityf, a nearby amusement park of vile repute. The conversion of this place into P.B.T.S. was accomplished in 1911. Space prevents the mention of but a few of the early Faculty Members. Mr. John R. Clements was the first President, and not many ears thereafter, Rev. Ernest G. Crabill was chosen as Vice President. Rev. William Pike be- came Dean, and Prof. H. S. Miller and Miss Mary Scotten were revered teachers of,many blessed memories. No teacher ever imparted more to the Students than Dr. John A. Davis himself. The Golden Jubilee finds the School in the best lposition of its history. As of 1950 the Alumni Association numbers 1241 Gra uates. P.B.T.S. stands upon the sure foundation of these fifty trying et triumphant years, and dedicates herself anew to the unfinished task of fixrther service, assured full well that He which hath begun a good work in us will Tzform it until the day of Jesus Christ. What a challenge it is to us when He says, according to your faith be it unto you.', The above is the architect's drawing of our proposed New Building for the Prac- tical Bible Training School. For a number of years we have turned students away because of limited accommodations in our dormitories, and with a host of young people anxious for a Biblical Chr' t' ' ' undertaking for the near future. IS ian training, the proposal becomes a must This will be a three story, fire-resistant building, with a separate heatin lant 8 P 1 of practical design. The first floor will provide a dining room with seating capacity of fo h d d d ' ' ur un re , mo ern kitchen, and parlor. The second and third floors will be dormitory space for one hundred young men,-fifty rooms, together with parlors, bathrooms, linen closets, and prayer rooms. The site for the new building is to be just northwest of the Inner Circle toward Sunset Knoll. The estimated cost is 3200,000.00. This may seem like a gigantic undertaking, but God is able. The Alumni Association is su ortin this eff t d pp g or an a host of friends praying. At the present time we have 335,000 in our fund deposited with the Workers Trust Company in Johnson City. The Practical Bible Training School of today is the result of the vision of its founder. Not without effort, pain, and trouble has the School come thus far, not 'th h wi out ard work and sacrifice will the future achievements be made possible. But should anyone think that the work, the program of 50 years, is to stop where . . 9 it is. The thought is preposterous. We want to make this, the Golden Anniversary year of our School, the greatest in its history. The leaders are here, the experience is here, the vision is here for even greater advancement. If it is true that, without a vision the people perish, it is.equally certain that where the l b d' ' ' peop e are o e lent to the voice and the inspiration that would lead them to even better and greater things, they attain to heights that at the outset seemed impossible. Please pray that God will undertake for us, and accomplish what may seem like the impossible. He is ABLE. Sponsored through courtesy of LES, 1038 Front St., Binghamton, N. Y.
