emafz gzbdfdflfy L lt has been sust four years ssnce we the Class ot' 48 fsrst passed through the masssve doorways snto the awe snspsrsng halls of Powell Hsgh School For a few days we wandered about feelsng lske pygmses sn a gsants castle snhabsted by those msght upper classmen However we soon found them to be ksndly creatures and wsth thesr ascl we ourselves qrew taller and took up our abode wsth them They called us freshmen 76 of us lt was de csded that we should organsze and elect offscers a few weeks after the school term had started The of fscers elected were Robert Bryant Pressdent W A Lucas Vsce Pressdent Joanne Fenton Secretary and Georqsa Mae Ausban Treasurer The only artsvstv we nartscspated sn that year was the annual carnsval Our candsdates for ksng and queen were Denton Huff and Dsxse Holloway We dsd not wsn the contest but we had fun trysng The Sophomore year was more snterestsng To dsrect us we chose Arvsn Brown Pressdent Ralph Foster Vsce Pressdent Betty Jo Turner Secretary Jean Summers Treasurer and Mr H J Fowler advssor ln stead of the annual carnsval we had a popularsty contest Our candsdates were Betty lo Tssrner and Bsll Harbsn We lost agasn but we were determsnerl to wsn at least one contest the next year How proud we were when we agasn entered school sn the fall of 46 as Junsors but alas' the Junsor class of the precedsnq ye r had stepped up too and aqasn we must contend wsth those dsqnsfsed Sensors But lske the others they soon came down to earth and we were consoled by the fact that we too were upperclassmen ln the early part of the year the class was orqanwed wsth fsve offscers They were Arvsn Brown Pressdent Wslma Nsx Vsce Pressdent Jean Ceoper Secretary Patsy Cooper Treasurer and Bob Cox Reporter Wsth our capable advssors Mass Amy Armstrong and Mr Jake Armstrong we embarked upon our glorsous career The fsrst class actsvsty was a magazsne contest whsch our class won When the annual carnsval came around we selected June Cooper and Ralph Matlock as our candsdates for Queen and Ksng Our class took thsrd place sn thss contest In Aprsl we success fully presented as one of our masn actsvstses a class play One Delsrsous Nsght On May 9 T947 We were hosts to the Sensor Class at a banquet at Whsttle Sprsngs Hotel Though some of our number had fallen by the wayssde we entered sn the fall of 47 wsth a class of 49 At last we had reached that coveted place Sensordom and st was o turn to be dsgnsfsed Our organszatson as a Sensor Class was promptly completed wsth Norman Mayes Pressdent Lynn Morg an Vsce Pressdent Norma Mayes Secretary Jean Fske Sergeant at Arms Msss Amy Armstrong and Mrs Msldred Patterson advssors October 21 whsch marked the arrsval of the class rsngs was a memorable day The fsrst actsvsty of the sensor class was partscs patson sn a magazsne contest When the annual carnsval came around our candsdates for ksng and queen were Arvsn Brown and Patsy Cooper As the end of thss school year draws near we are looksng forward to the annual Junsor Sensor Ban quet when we shall be guests of the Junsor Class the Sensor Class Play Commencement and many other clossnq actsvstses lt ss wsth regrets we pass from our hscsh school lsfe snto the broader world beyond whsch calls from every ssde and whsch recesves wsth uplstt snq hands the ambstsous sdealsstsc and trasned youth of our ranks 9 a J l ' I .
