'The Times Change and I've Change With Them' The day which we had longed for finally arrived on September 7, 1948. There were 107 of us freshmen who wandered in a dazed way through the halls of PHS for the first time. We elected the following leaders: president, Anna Avisg vice-president, Mary McMath secretary Johnny Orr and treasurer Greg Gibson to guide us through this hectic beginning The class sponsors were Lu Jean Kragel and Robert Mize On October 8 official 1n1t1at1on took place The girls were at tractively dressed in gunny sacks and high heels The bones in their hair added the final touch to their charm while the boys looked innocent 1n their baby clothes As usual we had to wait on the sophomores hand and foot The garlic which all freshmen were forced to eat left a peculiar odor in the halls for several days afterwards Powell H1gh's newly organized wrestling team coached by Steward Frew held its first match on January 12 1949 with Cody The freshmen on this team were George Brow Jerre Garvin Keith McCoy Phil Kopriva and Bob Burnett who went on to win State Championship The District Basketball Tournament was held from March 3 to 5 at Greybull with three of our freshmen boys Don Collins Ken Dooley and Ken Noddings participating Our sophomore year began with the election of class officers on September 22 We chose Don Collins as president Anna Avis as vice president Ela1ne Utter as secretary and Janet Royer as treasurer LaVerne Witte and Stewart Frew sponsored our class through our sophomore Junior and senior years W -2 ef- --5 r'3 .m gm 21 15 C. s . 1 , 'I - l , 1 in u , 9 I . 1 ,a I - l , 5 V W rss A T Hr! ,, 'ir yi 3 - J
