The biggest change being the new half- year classes, which combined quarterly mini-courses. All of the subiects are very interesting, having such titles as Social-Cultural History, Foreign Policy, Political Parties, etc. One and half years of United States history are now required by the department. Mr. Gerald Davis has done a very admirable iob as the new Department Chairman, filling in the shoes of former chairman, Mr. David Wallace.

English Department Succeeds With Mini-Courses The young chicks of the English Department eat lunch. l 8 The English Department, for the second year, is offering mini-courses to all students. These courses involve all phases of English, from literature to film-making. For those students planning a maior in English, there are such offered classes as Advanced Composition and Journalism. The department has provided the students with a variety of interesting courses this year.

LANGUAGE DEPARTMENT: B. Band, T. Johnson, A. Lekousi, A. Palais. Language Department Plans ewspaper Mr. Lekousi tutors Mr. Palais in his French lessons. This year, the Language Department, with chairman Ms. Theresa Johnson, has been making plans for a for- eign newspaper. lt will include stories written in German, Spanish, French, and Latin. Many students have shown interest in this paper, thinking it a worthwhile proiect. The department has always had a number of fun trips to Spain and France. The students of Portland High School again look forward to these trios.
