.gjulaerinfenolenf an rinci a J I9 I9 f THE 1943 Seniors of Portland High School feel closer to Mr. D. S. Weller than probably any fu- ture graduating class can. It has been our good fortune to know him not only as our superintendent but also for one year as our principal. We appre- ciate the start he gave us as Freshmen and the contact we have enjoyed in the three succeeding years. As a teacher and as a friend, Mr. Weller will always live in our hearts. D. S. Weller Harold Brubaker A THOROUGH scholar, a sympathetic teacher, and a dyed-in-the-wool sports fan, Mr. Harold Bru- baker, now in his third year as Principal of Port- land High School, is endearing himself to all of the students. Seemingly endowed with a natural in- stinct for understanding the problems of young people and for handling them, he manages a smooth running and up-to-date school. In present day slanguage, He's on the beam! Page Thirteen

QWe pay tribute to Miss Fulton in an- other section of our bookl. She was replaced by Miss Mae Louise Kohr from South Bend, a graduate of Indiana University. Readily ad- justing herself to the ways of P. H. S., Miss Kohr filled her po- sition with aptitude and efiiciency. MR. ROBERT JONES. who had been supervisor of instrument- al music last year. joined the Unit- ed States Navy immediately after school closed last spring. His va- cancy was filled by Miss Emily Stahr, who holds a B. M. degree from DePauw University. She di- rected the band and orchestra and gave individual lessons. Cheerful and friendly, Miss Stahr has made many friends around P. H. S.
