VonPalan: At the Homecoming celebration we had a float, on which we worked hard. Our candidate for queen was Judy Todd. During football sea- son, we sold at the Vermontville game and made a tidy sum on it. In the fall, we had a hayride party at Shot- well Bridge. We had a scrap iron drive, which made our finances higher. We had a bake sale in the middle of winter at the dairy. During basketball season, we sold at the Saranac game. The biggest event in our exciting year was our dance, which was called ‘April Showers.” We have all enjoyed our Sophomore year at Portland High and feel sure it would not have been a successful year without the help from our able sponsors, Mrs. Sherwood and Mr. Bullen. We the class of “54” are looking for- ward to being “upperclassmen” next year. Sitting: Mrs. Sherwood, Mr. Bullen. Standing: A. McCollar, Vice-Pres., M. Moyer, Sec., J. Selden, Pres., D. Early in the fall we had a hay-ride, where all the freshmen had an opportunity to get acquainted with each other. ''We chose Betty Moyer as our candidate for Home- coming queen, and she was a part of the queen's court at the Homecoming game and dance. One of our more constructive activities was the ; writing of a class constitution, which will govern Sitting: Mr. Monroe, T. Roberts, Vice Pres., B. Kirschenman, Pres.; Mr. Wood. Standing: B. Other activities included the usual ones of selling refreshments at a football game and a basketball game, holding a bake sale, and spon- soring a dance. We feel that we had a good year, and are look- ing forward to returning to P. H. S. as Sophomores in September 1952.
