Class History We entered P. H. S. in the fall of 1947, 80 bewildered Freshmen. Under the guidance of Miss Wilcox, we soon settled down. Our Officers for the year were President, Gordon Seal; Vice-President, Howard Bills; Secretary, Barbara Cross; and Treasurer, Ted White. As Sophomores we gained in importance although we were lower in enrollment. There were 76 of us in the class. Mr. Lee was our sponsor. Our class candidate, Pat Howard, was elected Homecoming Queen. We sold refreshments at games to boost our treasury. The class officers were President, G. Jay Rottman; Vice-President, Bernice Schrauben; Secretary, Mary Ellen Fox; and Treasurer, Nancy Green. In our Junior year the boys took over our leadership with Gordon Seal, President; Allen Mellstead, Vice-President; John Stewart, Secretary; and Dick Mauren, Treasurer. We sold Review Observer subscriptions, sponsored dances, and sold at the games. We won the annual magazine sale from the Seniors (plus a $10 bet). Betsey Stewart, one of our classmates, represented Miss Portland and was in the Snow Queen’s court at lonia. Four very important events of the year were our class rings, which we received in December; Junior Play, “Aunt Hetty Hits Her Stride” the J-Hop, “Dancing in the Dark”; and the Junior and Senior Banquet in June. Our co-sponsors for the year were Miss Shepherd and Mr. Lee. At long last, we reached the top—Seniors! We now numbered 67. Our class officers were President, Allen Mellstead; Vice-President, Gordon Seal; Secretary, Elaine Tower; and Treasurer, Dick Mauren. The first big event was the Senior Prom, “Shine on Harvest Moon.” Then the play, “Desperate Ambrose.” Our candidate, Rose Mary Fedewa, was elected Homecoming Queen. The Senior Carnival was better than ever. This time we lost the magazine sale and the $10 bet to the Junior Class. Besides these major events there was the graduation features, Senior luncheons, bake sales, raffles, selling re- freshments at games and sponsoring dances after games. The Annual speaks for itself. Then came the big trip. And last, but not least Commencement. We were all a little sorry when it was over. These four years of high school have been happy ones.
