Just as in life, the most important thing is not the triumph but the struggle. The Olympic Creed The 1975 Varsity football team coached by Donn Rennwick and as- sistant coach Tiny Hill finished the season in a tie for second with a record of 2-1-2 in the EYL. The highlight of the season was a 14-13 upset over league champion Tulare Western. This was the passingest Panther team in the history of the school and was led byMost Valuable Player and All League performer Marty Medrano, Best Offensive Back and All League Quarterback Thad Reece, Best Offensive Line- man-Joe McDonald, Best Defensive Lineman Steve Poteet, Best De- fensive Back-Easy Contreras and Most Inspirational-Armando Mar- quez to an outstanding season. FR-SOPH The Frosh-Soph Kittens were coached by Dave Frederick to a 3-1-1 record and second place in the league for an excellent season. They were led by Most Valuable Player and Best Back Raymond Varela, who had over 500 yards rushing. Along with Varella the Captains were Best Lineman Danny Flores, Linemen Jay Meyer, and Ricky Rodriguez. Also recognized as outstanding players were Best Linemen Phillip Carlton, Leading Scorer Danny Wilson with eleven touchdowns, Best Defensive Back- Mike Camarena, and leading re- ceiver Luis Escalante. JV The Junior Varsity football team, coached by Greg Boyer, had a poor season when you consider their wonflost record. It was a building season and many fine players were developed throughout the course of the season. Such outstanding athletes as Mike Webber, Most Valuable Player and Best Back Dan Hooverwill move up and help the Varsity to a very successful season next year. Both were team cap- tains and showed great leadership ability. Other awards went to Henry Martinez-Best Hitter, Jeff Cotta- Most Inspirational, and Matt Vick- ers-Best Back. With this caliber of players moving on to Varsity Por- terville's football future looks bright. This years C football team coached by Bob Perez experienced an excellent season. A total of 56 boys played throughout the sea- son and were very competitive and highly spirited. Outstanding play- ers included Manny Beltran, Robert Gabinete, fMost Valuable Playerh, Willy Garcia, Brian Bun- yard, Joel Sierra, and Eddie Rod- riguez. This has been the biggest turnout for C football in the his- tory of the school, and a success- ful year it was.
