Our Iunior Rube Day was said to be one of the best in history of Porterville Union High School, our theme being Funny Papers . On that day you could see super- men, Daisy Maes, Little Lulu's, and many others all over the campus. Our enthusiasm was no less in our assembly. The Circus was our theme. As Iuniors we presented the unusual and beau- tifully decorated prom with the theme of Midnight Masquerade. The scene was in a medieval garden and a waterfall with floating water lilies being the center of attraction. At midnight all the lights were turned out except a pink one which shown on a black clock sprinkled with silver which told the time of 12 o'clock. Hilarity reigned, in a packed house, the night that the Iuniors presented their play Sis Perkins. A picnic at the end of the year bade farewell to our Iunior year, and we took up shovels to dig in deep at our Senior year. The 49ers emerged triumphant with this being our biggest year. As we started down the trail we took everything in our stride. On the annual hat day, it was interesting to see the many original creations on every senior's head. Our assembly was a variety of talent including the georgeous Varga Girls. We Shook the Family Tree was the name of the tre- mendously successful play that the Senior Class put on. In this the talented actors of the class exemp- lified their ability. Last but not least was our Dress-up day, it looked like Broadway on Easter Morning. Then at long last we had reached our goal that anxiously awaited day .... Graduation. We had looked forward to this day but when it arrived all the long faces you saw were Seniors. We only hope that our future lives will be as successful as we hope our school years have been. The Senior Class Officers for the class of 1949 were the students who were chosen from the class to represent us at all meetings and affairs. We accomplished a great deal during the course of the year for the class and the school as a whole. The class presented, with the arrangement by the officers, several well attended dances, presented a good assembly, and earned enough money to donate a basketball scoreboard to be placed in the gym in our name. A Senior bulletin board was ar- ranged by the officers, to inform us of all senior activities. 19
