J.V. roundballers end season on 6-15 note Getting off to a slow start, the junior varsity basketball team eventually ended their season, 6-15. Junior Kelly Campbell led the Indians in scoring with 165 points. Following close behind, juniors Ray Dooley and Bob Hurst each tallied 162 points. Eleven games passed before the cagers could get a glimpse of victory. Then the roundballers romped on Hobart, beating them 55-30. The following night, Hammond Noll defeated PHS 33-41, but the Indians bounced right back and beat LaPorte by a wide 61-39 margin. Griffith slipped past the cagers toward the end of the season and won 38-36. The J.V. team then went on to win its next two games easily. Winding up the long season, the roundballers succeeded in beating Crown Point by a convincing score of 56-48. Due to the structure of the wrestling team, the junior varsity did not compete as a team. Wrestlers attended meets with the varsity and competed whenever possible. With a leap into the air. Bob Hurst soph., attempts to tip the ball and gain possession of it. The roundballers were not able to defeat the Vikings in the contest, and fell to them, 35-38. Keeping control of the ball, sophomore Terry Scott steers away from his opponent, hoping to sink a basket before the Viking can steal the ball. The cagers lost to Valparaiso by a slim 35-38 edge. During the regular season, the Tribe easily defeated most of their opponents. They fell only to Munster, which had an extremely strong team, according to Coach Beverly Reynolds. Senior Gayle Froman suffered a fractured wrist in regional competition, thus disqualifying her from further action. However, the other team members continued to display the grace and skill familiar to PHS gymnastics fans. At regionals, senior Sheryl Cook captured a first on the uneven bars. Karen Kusmierz, sr., took second on the balance beam and senior Toni Yudt grabbed a second on the vault. The optional team clutched an honorable second at the contest after being overtaken by Munster. Cook competed at state and brought PHS first place honors for her performance on the unevens. 86 Girls ' Gymnastics
