Teachers outgoing, involved in school related activities ' The strongest point of the high school is the faculty, stated Mrs. Marjorie Herren. guidance counselor. No one is hard nosed or disagreeable to work with. The faculty, consisting of 103 individuals, taught a variety of courses, ranging from Interpersonal Relations to Photography. A total of 66 teachers taught subjects other than their major courses. For example, Mr. Ronald Hancock taught World Geography and supervised Cadet Teaching. Many individuals are needed to run the high school throughout the year. The cafeteria staff prepared lunch 174 times last vear, while the nurses took an average 22 temperatures a dav. Available when individual problems arose, guidance counselors and secretaries ' manned the offices during the day. MRS. LOUISE BAKER And Mrs Patricia Noland, school nurses, check a student ' s temperature, which is part of the daily routine in operating the school clinic. SCHOOL SECRETARIES — Mrs Ann Addis, Mrs. Delores Arvidson, Mrs. Mary Cantwell, Mrs. Doris Lock, Mrs. Phyllis Lustgarten, Mrs. Sherry Moore. THROUGHOUT THE YEAR Mr. Maurice Tolbert, Portage Township Attendance Officer, keeps track of truancy records for all PHS students. MEDIA CENTER staff members Mrs. Eleanor Justice. Mrs. Virginia Bateman, Mrs. Cheryl Wilson and Mrs. Sue Jongsma retain the orderliness of the library. MR. KENNETH WOODRUFF, Director of Adult Education, discusses with a potential student the adult education program offered at PHS in the evening.

English classes expand use of audio-visual equipment The 1974-75 year in the English Department was a little like the year ' s economy, hav ing both ups and downs. Presented during the year were plays and viedotapesof Huck Finn and “ Red Badge of Courage, which added enjoyable variety to the English currculum. “ I think the students enjoyed watching plays put on by their fellow classmates,” commented Mrs. Mary Ella Barber, junior English teacher. One of the major problems faced by the department was the programing of phase electives. Mrs. Majorie Herren, guidance counselor, explained, “The load on th e computer was too great, so many times what the computer scheduled and what the students wanted was different.’ SOPHOMORES STEVE LEFFERT and Abha kapila work on a make-up test in the hall during English class. Student absences were reduced by the new attendance policy used in 1974-75. MR. WARREN MUNRO, senior English teacher, reads a short story to his Modern Novels class. This class was just one of ten phase electives offered to seniors for the second vear. LOOKING THROUGH THE CHICAGO TRIBUNE for a specific type of ad, senior Kim Vasquez completes a project for her new spaper phase elective course. 78 English
