During the football season they can be seen practicing for their weekly halftime shows. In this election year one of these shows was built around the national conven- tions in Chicago. In this show the band form- ed the stockyards, a map of the U. S, and the Capitol where Harry Truman could be seen playing a last melody. Another favorite was the Jolly Farmer in which the Farmer in the Dell got hep and Old MacDonald took the spectators on a tour of his barn. At the last home game twenty seniors were awarded pins in the shape of the instrument they played. In turn. they presented Mr. Stanton and Mr. Arthur with gifts in appreciation for all their time and hard work. Tag Day re- sults were favorable with total collections amounting to 8650. At the end of the football season the band came inside to practice for the Christmas concert, the spring concert, the Ottawa County Band Festival, and the exchange concert with another school. The dance band hit the downbeat and be- gan practicing for school dances and plays while the orchestra started to work on music for other activities. ln February Mr. Stanton and Mr. Arthur began working with the Various ensembles and soloists in preparation for the spring solo and ensemble district and state contests to be held in March and April. More of the highpoints of the year were the trip to Put-ln-Bay for the yacht regatta, the Annual Band and Chorus Banquet, and the last performance of the year, The Memorial Day Parade.
