Bu! virfue always reaps rewards, and fhe fame of fhe Parrof band has spread lhroughouf lhe leng'!h and breadfh of our counlry. Typical of 'rhis reaciion was 'l'he invilalion issued +o Band Direclor Frank Kaslro io bring his congregalion fo lhe January 2nd foofball classic, lhe Sou+hwesl's own Colfon Bowl. Joining five olher oulsfanding bands from The Land of lhe Lone Slar, lhe IOO puf on a pre-game show rhal made college bands green wiih envy. This appearance followed parficipalion in fhe Wichifa Falls Band conlesl from which 'the Band nefled ils second conseculive firsf place marching award. Sevenfeen individual 'firsf place awards were handed oul from fhe Firsl Chair of America, an organizalion which recognizes oufslanding individual performances among band members across fhe nalion. Parror Troopers, an organizafion of band members who concenlrales on dance arrangemenfs, played for local and sfafe conventions and dances. These players also parlicipaled in a Pep Band which played for all pep rallies and before and afler school spiri+ raisers. Serving as presidenl' of fhis year's organizafion was Grimm Dewell, who doubled as conduclor when he could persuade Kaslro lo relinquish lhe balon. Vice Presi- denl Tom Bullock, Tawana Gandillon, secreiaryi Marsha Reily, lreasurerp Janel' Whisenand, publicilyg and Marsha Sowers. librarian, rounded our fhe band's Big Drums. lnlroduced for The 'firsl lime in a Forl' Worlfh cily band, 'lhe eighf herald frumpels made big noise as lhey called allenlion lo band numbers. The Parrof Booslers Club, an organilaiion of band parenfs and local merchanls inleresied in The develop- menl of The band, helped defray expenses by a series of money-raising proiecls. Cule and perlry Kay Walson was elecled sweelhearl' of The Marching l00, aided and abelled by Campaign Manager Rex Meredilh. A band member for lhree years. Kay added beauly and musicianship fo lhe band. She was presenled af fhe Wichila Falls foolball game by All Slale Drum Major, Don Young. As direcfor Kaslro sums if up-- They have il lo give. and no one, or no band can 'louch fhem wifh a hundred fool pole.
