Q ,. , . - II ll I I Atop the blackboard in the Parrot gym was written the following words 365 DAYS UNTIL STATE BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT On the morning of March 8 this goal which the Parrots set a year ago was achieved as they set down a favored BORGER quintet 56 51 for the Conference AAAA State Championship This was the first state crown ever recorded by a Poly athletic team To arrive at this coveted title the Parrots made a dramatic comeback ln the latter part of the season and revenged an earlier defeat by SUNSET to capture the bi district title and an entrance into the state meet To gain the bl district play off Poly edged by Defending Champion Coach Jack Harleys charges finished the season with a remarkable record of 28 wins and five losses BORGER state AAAA runner up CARTER district 3 AAAA runner up SUNSET district 4 AAAA champion and ALAMO HEIGHTS state AAA titlies furnished the blots on the Parrot record Poly won the Hardin Simmons tournament for the fourth consecuttve year and placed third in the Cotton Bowl tourney Six lettermen from the champion quintet will return for the 53 season along with four squadmen and the City Champion B team BILL ESTILL and DICK ONEAL were selected on the District 3 AAAA All Cnty team and the All State team PASCHAL, 39-38, to win the 3-AAAA District title.
