THE SEYMOUR AWARD The Seymour Honor Award was named in honor of The IaTe Charles F. Seymour who esfablished The California Scholarship FederaTion. Thar graduafing senior who earns The greaTesT number of scholarship and Gold L poinTs receives The firsT place, is given TwenTy-five To ThirTy- five dollars, and has his name engraved on The bronze plaque which is kepf in The office. The sTudenT earning The nexT greaTesT number of poinTs receives fiffeen To TwenTy-five dollars. FirsT place was won lasT year by RuTh AshTon and second by Harrison Sigworfh. LONG BEACH JUNIOR COLLEGE LasT year The number of scholarships To Long Beach Junior College was increased To ThirTeen. Each scholarship amounfed To TwenTy-five dollars. The poinTs considered in The iudging were scholasfic record, characfer, need, and parTicipaTion in school acTiviTies. BeTTy Mae Barfon won The Mary F. Baker Memorial Scholarship, founded by Mr. Yeary in memory of his mofher. The Poly Parenf-Teachers Associ- afion offered Two scholarships which were won by Maurice Holmes and Joan Larimer. Mary Manchesfer won The Jane HarneTT Memorial Award and Evangeline Lewis The Senior Class Scholarship. A scholarship is of- fered semi-annually by The Lions' Club. IT was won in February by Frances HaughTelin and in June by Barbara Branfingham. Oliver Lowell and Gene- vieve McCay won The Two given by The Poly faculTy. Pafricia King was given a scholarship in February by The Cafholic Business Men's Club. ln June, Jean Huron was awarded The scholarship offered by The Associafed Women STudenTs of Long Beach Junior College and Rodney Rhea was successful in winning The one offered by The Delfa Thefa Tau sororiTy. These Two were The resulT of ciTy wide compeTiTion. . UNIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIPS Several Poly sTudenTs won scholarships of amounTs varying from S250 To SIZOO offered by several universifies. Dan Sedgwick, Bob Duvall, and Gene PiclceTT won scholarships To The Universify of California aT Berkeley. Margery May Lindgren and Leah Gliclcson won scholarships To The Uni- versify of California aT Los Angeles. Two scholarships To The Universify of SouThern California were won by AlThea Chrisfopher and Mildred Bicknell. RuTh Ashfon won The S500 Bixby Scholarship To Scripps College, and Kennefh Folsom secured one To Princefon Universify.
