The past four years at Polk Central have been motivating, interesting, and exciting for me. ln 7th and 8th grades l was a member of the band, the l r. Beta Club, and Student Coun- cil. ln my first two years of high school, l was elected to the home- coming court, played basketball, joined the Young Christians Club, and served on the Student Council. Although the awards in school- Cutstanding 7th grade band stu- dent, first place in the Upstairs writ- ing contests, Student of the Month, and serving as Vice-President of the Student Council-are all exciting, the best awards l receive come from singing. l have been singing since l was almost eight years old. At this time, l began singing with my uncle as a duet. From this arose a little family group called the Soul Conspirators. A few years after this group dis- solved, l joined the Green Creek Community Mass Choir, l am cur- rently singing with the Soul Su- premes. During the eight years l've been singing, l've won talent shows and sang in numerous churches across the land. l really enjoy receiving prizes for singing, but the best re- ward ever comes from watching the people's facial expressions change from sad to happy as l sing or when a person comes up to me and says, l really enjoyed hearing you sing. You've made me feel very good. I can't explain the way l feel when l receive a standing ovation, but to know that someone else appreciates and enjoys the gift that God has blessed me with makes me very hap- PY- Wanda Carson ! 5:21531 15 - lTS have to eat lunch too!
