I I I I I I an 4 . I l I I I a Dear Friends: In a few short hours we are leaving Norfolk to traverse the same routes that scores of other Navy personnel and mariners have done before us. We go with no trepidation, no lack ofjconfidence, for ours is a mission to fulfill and fulfill it we must. We go with a sense of Godjs presence in our lives, for just as He guided the Israelites in their stormy crossing of the Red Sea, just as He marched with Joshua and Gideon in theirponquests of the enemy, just as we believe He kept His hand upon the evacuation of Dunkirk, so we know that His sympathies are always with those who believe in justice, mercy and truth for His truth goes marching on. We look forward to witnessing what remains of the ancient culture of Athens--that magnificent citadel of learning and thinking. We are already dreaming of gorgeous Italy, the land of sunshine, with majestic Rome, Venice, queen of the Adriatic, and Florence, mecca of art lovers for I generations. And there is always Barcelona--the home of spectacular bull fighting, throbbing guitars, the scintillating steps of the Flamenco dancers, and an all-around metropolis of enjoyment. There will be work as well--hard work but work we can take pride in, for when you accomplish a project, there is the kind of satisfaction that nothing else can give you. O yes, one more thing--our President has called for a better understanding among peoples. We're going to try and do something about that. We're going to try and learn something about them and we hope they learn something about us-- the truth, that is, not the picture that has been painted by our enemies. And when we are back in Norfolk, it is our fervent hope that it will be a deployment all of us will remember with fondness. Fl HH F 1 H I ' F.
