Robert K. Barr ma- Commander Robert K. Barr, Jr., USN, assumed command of USS PLYMOUTH ROCK CLSD-291 in ceremonies held at Naples, Italy on the twenty-seventh of November 1979. Before relieving Commander William A. Herman as Commanding Officer, Commander Barr served as the Live Ordinance Range Officer at Vieques Island, Puerto Rico. Because of his superior per- formance at this assignment, Commander Barr was awarded the Navy Commendation Medal CSecond Awardj. Commander Barr is a native of West Palm. Beach, Florida and attended Palm Beach High School prior to entering the Navy as a Fireman Recruit in 1951. Advancing through the various ranks until his commissioning in 1961 Com- mander Barr displayed the determination and dedication that characterizes his life. l Previous assignments have included tours on- board Destroyers, Amphibious Ships, and the Research Ship USS ROCKVILLE QEPCER- 851D where he served as Commanding Officer as a Lieutenant in 1961. Shore billets have in- cluded duty at Fleet Training Center, Norfolk, VA., and Navy Safety Center, Norfolk, VA.

COMMANDIN G 014747 CBR - COMMANDER WILLIAM A HERMAN Commander William A Herman assumed command of USS Plymouth Rock QLSD 295 on ll J an 1977 Taking USS Plymouth Rock from overhaul 1n Baltimore, MD, Cdr. Herman took charge as the men of Plymouth Rock completed Refresher Training in Cuba. In late 1977 Plymouth Rock was called on to transport supplies to Rota Spain and Naples, Italy On her return voyage she carried a shipment of copper cables from LaPalice, France. Under Cdr Herman s guidance Plymouth Rock spent the first half of 1978 preparing for her upcoming Mediterranean deployment Leaving on the 21st of August, 1978, Plymouth point of this deployment when Cdr Herman was releived by Plymouth Rock's present CO, Cdr Robert K Barr in Naples Italy on 27 Nov 1977 Rock was underway for the North Atlantic and the Mediterranean.
