e ...our challenge
Plymouth High School . . . yesterday,
today, tomorrow. What changes occur in
the brief span of one hundred years! In
1860, for instance, girls in hoop-skirts and
boys in fitted trousers went to school in
a building that would seem drab to us mod-
ern students in our knee-length skirts and
chinos. And who knows what another cen-
tury will bring to our school and its stu-
Our predecessors were generally more
earnest scholars than most of us. One
hundred years ago the price of an educa-
tion was hard work. Students of 1860 had
tocontend with Declamation and Greek,
while to us Latin seems unbeiiriihiy diffi-
cult. The standards of education follow the
changing patterns of time. '
Yet despite the outward differences in
our schools over the period of one hundred
years, we are bound to those in the past, as
to those in the future, by a common goal.

AN ASSOCIATION CHERISHED
Our advisor at his high school
We the students, and especially the year-
book staff, here express our gratitude to Mr.
Roland Holmes for his help and backing. He
has been a friend, as well as a teacher and
counsellor, to each of us who has known him.
During the time that Mr. Holmes has
served as advisor for the Pilgrim, he has
weathered feuds, insufficient funds, and

deadlines to help produce a new and better
yearbook each year. We are proud of our
Pilgrim, but without him, it could never
have been written and published.
Therefore, to recognize the tremendous
work that this man has done, we offer him
our highest compliment by dedicating to him
the 1960 Pilgrim.
