Merton Porter was born March 13, 1912, in Green Camp, Ohio. He began a teaching career that has lasted 36 years. His career began with a three year stint at Waldo. His first appearance at Pleasant High School was in 1937. Mr. Porter remained at P.H.S. until 1953, when he accepted a position with the Prospect school system. For- tunately for Pleasant, Mr. Porter returned in 1957, and he has remained here since. In 1961, Mr. Porter earned his Master of Arts degree from Miami University. He holds a perma- nent High School Certificate in the fields of chemistry, physics, and mathematics. It is an honor to pay tribute to one who has become so much a part of Pleasant High School. Mr. Porter ' s own excellence inspires his students to achieve excellence in their own way. He gives much and asks nothing in return. Mr. Porter ' s untiring patience commands the respect of all his students. He overlooks our forgetfulness, our care- lessness, and our inconsideration. In return for his unselfish gifts of friendship, knowledge, and in- spiration, we dedicate the 1969 KEY to Mr, Merton Porter. David Bailey Martha Lee Kris Baker Kim Giles Linden Kirby Sue Lonsdale We present to the students of Pleasant High School the 1969 KEY, a book full of the magic moments of school life at P.H.S. Open this book, and take time to remember the sights and sounds of life at Pleasant High School. I ' d like to express my thanks to the members of my staff who worked so hard to make this year ' s book better than ever. 1 extend my deepest thanks to Mr. Robert Dendinger for being patient with us and giving us his time, talent, and experience. Underclassmen are worrying about getting to be upperclassmen. Seniors can look at their diplomas and see long hours in class, home- coming dances, football games, the Southern majesty of Gone with the Wind, jokes at lunch time, sleeping in home room, favorite teachers, and trips to the office. I It is my sincere hope that we, in some way, have helped you in Christian growth. Well in evidence were the animated faces of the scholars, athletes, and leaders of the high school ' s coming classes. Minds broadened and developed toward maturity in the many class- rooms. Coaches and physical education teach- ers strove to develop physical prowess. Band, chorus, and art classes brought out hidden talents and gave students an outlet for their feelings. In the minds of the students was the idea that soon they would be those charmed and charm- ing people whom they admired so, the high school students. -■ g m -::: ■rMwm ■1 .rm : j ' i ' X lT ' HIGH - ELEMENTARY 79 EIGHT A First Row: Pam Massey, Sharon Mahaffey, Billy Layne, Randy Hensel, John Taylor, Jeff Granger.
