THE PLATTONIAN Plattsmouth High School, Plattsmouth, Nebraska Joe Arn................Editor Kenneth Price..........Assistant Editor Sandra Spangler........Business Manager Suzanne Murdock........Layout Editor Mike Maxwell...........Art Editor Mrs. Matthies..........Sponsor CRUISING THROUGH OUTER SPACE DEDICATION Joseph C. York We, the graduating class of 1961, dedicate our yearbook to Joe C. York, popular with all his students for his teaching talent, his keen sense of humor, and his likeable personality. 2 ADMINISTRATION BOARD OF EDUCATION Trustees Elected in the District are the Guardians of Our Ship Ray Larsen, Russell Nielsen, Oscar Mussman, Lester Hutchinson, Harold Lebens, John Cloidt Jr., Not Pictured, Maxine Cloidt. The Board of Education is in charge of the executive administration and is responsible for the smooth running of Plattsmouth High School. The students of Plattsmouth High School are all grateful to the Board of Education. 4 OUR SUPERINTENDENT The captain of our spaceship, Mr. Mussman.is known to the Class of '61 as a most trust- worthy, capable, and efficient administrator of the Public School System. He is always willing to give a highly con- sidered opinion on problems submitted to him. MRS. WILLIAMS Better known as Mr. Mussman's right hand, Mrs. Williams is a familiar figure around P.H.S. She supervises the stock room and orders school supplies. She also handles all school records and books, and keeps Mr. Mussman's office operating efficiently. OUR PRINCIPAL Well known around Plattsmouth is our Princi- pal, Mr. Rodehorst. As friend or as principal, he can't be beat in the opinion ofmostofthe students. He holds meetings, makes an- nouncements, frowns upon bad boys and cries at graduation! Here too, his work is never done. There's always more to do and he doesn't mind helping people with individual problems. MRS. HANSEN Her laugh and smile are familiar . . . Give her a typewriter, a telephone, and a problem; she's content! Being the office secretary means real work, and there's plenty that Mrs. Hansen does in the Platts- mouth office. Sweetheart Connie Pfeifer 0 ORGANIZATIONS ANNUAL STAFF Joe Arn and Mrs. Matthies The year of '61 brought many changes in the Plattonian. The use of more pictures is the lost noticeable change. Among the important features is the use of new division pages. These, along with the cover, have given this year's annual a much more enchanting and desir- able appearance. The Plattonian was published by the American Yearbook Company and the photography was done by Genelli Studios and Neil Cole. The annual staff has been working very hard on the Plattonian all year and they are sure it is one of the best annuals ever printed. STANDING: Neil Cole. Janice McKinney. The length of the paper has extended to six, news-packed pages. The contents have ranged from editorials to sports, plays, and salutes to faculty and students. A welcome addition is the many good photographs that appeared throughout the newspaper this past year. All in all, we think congratulations should be extended to each and everyone of the Platter Staff and the sponsor for their diligence and effort put forth in our school paper. Cooperation and hard work really produced a paper well worth praise. ROW 1: Ann Iverson, Lucky Meyer, Joyce Buechler, Martha Win- ters, Bonnie Way. CHORUS While the new hopefuls were preparing for choir tryouts, five of last years choir were chosen to attend the Nebraska State Music Clinic at North Platte. The vocalists and instrumentalists left for North Platte the 17th of November, and spent three days rehearsing in their respective groups for the final concert on Novem- Miss George and Albert Wetenkamp, Pres, ber 19th. Those people participating in the clinic cho- rus were Marilyn Morris, Sandra Spangler, Tom Smith, Tim Fischer, Albert Wetenkamp and Larry Toothaker. November also found the vocal department in some- what of a dither ordering music and choosing the leads for the production of the King and I. January brought the date of the show closer. Friday the Thirteenth us- ually is a day when people stay close to home, but this particular one changed the whole world of superstition. This was the night of the show, and at the close of the curtain, everyone present knew that the show had been a great success. After a short weather, preparations for a clinic at Ralston began. The sixteenth of February found the choir at Ralston singing under the direction of Mr. Pete Jenkins of the University of Nebraska. A concert was presented that evening for the public. A full, rich sound came from the chorus composed of stu- dents from five different schools in the Aksarben Con- ference. The choir now finds itself faced with a Spring Concert, Music Contest, Baccalaureate, and finally Commencement. All of these being the final ending of another year of progress. 55 Boys' Quartet: Tom Smith, Tim Fis- cher, Albert Wetenkamp, Larry Tooth- aker. To the faculty and others with whom we have been associated with during the last four years, we must now say good-by. I wish to thank Mary Ann Matthies, our adviser, constantly on hand with aid and guidance. For her sponsorship and ceaseless perserverance, the staff is sincerely appreciative. To my staff, whose interest and encouragement ever facilitated our task and helped to make our efforts successful, I extend my gratitude. In this final entry in the Plattonian, once more I wish to express my appreciation to those who have contributed. Thank you and Good-by. Editor r 72 g . g 7, 5 § ; ; r . ' • 4V . ' -■■• • ...r . • .
