Miss Quinlan has been teaching at Plattsburgh High School for thirty-seven years. Throughout those years she has unselfishly devoted much of her time to helping the student body. She has served as the Junior Class adviser, and as adviser to the former Minervian Literary Society. lve have striven to make this yearbook a testimonial of our esteem for a wonderful woman, and it is with gratitude that the class of 1963 proudly dedicates the forty-second edition of the Barker to . . . 4 Pl2JNCIPA!-'Q MESSAGE June, 1963 TO THE GRADUPTES OF THE CLASS OF 1963: Congratulations upon achieving this most important step in your life's career. You will undoubtedly have other honors bestowed upon you as the years go by but none of them will com- pare with the cherished warmth and pride that comes from pos- session of a high school diploma. We used to think in terms of our immediate surroundings, then we began to think in terms of state and national bound- aries. We now have to think and live in global terms. One cannot look around him with a satisfied feeling that Nkll is well.N He must shape his thinking, his goals, his long range plan for the full and rich life in terms that make all world areas his immediate environment. Democracy is as strong as the character of those who speak in her nameg and men and women today are sometimes blind to the fact that the way they live shouts louder to the world than the fine speeches their representatives make at the conference tables. Your life today is never a private matter. It passes like a disease from person to person and nation to nation. If one does not live his life in accordance with high prinp ciples, he, like films, radio, television, press, books may contribute to the defeat of democracy. Sometimes poor ac- complishment is made glamorous by group approval. In the face of this, the discerning thinker must be steadfast in his efforts to Wleave the world a little better than he finds it.W The faculty and administration hope that they have helped you to form the basic philosophy you need to help solve the complex problems of the modern world into which you are enter- ing. May you be deserving of rich rewards as the Class of 1963 makes history in all corners of the world! Sincerely yours, Principal
