Miss Quinlan has been teaching at Plattsburgh High School for thirty-seven years. Throughout those years she has unselfishly devoted much of her time to helping the student body. She has served as the Junior Class adviser, and as adviser to the former Minervian Literary Society. lve have striven to make this yearbook a testimonial of our esteem for a wonderful woman, and it is with gratitude that the class of 1963 proudly dedicates the forty-second edition of the Barker to . . . You will undoubtedly have other honors bestowed upon you as the years go by but none of them will com- pare with the cherished warmth and pride that comes from pos- session of a high school diploma. We used to think in terms of our immediate surroundings, then we began to think in terms of state and national bound- aries. We now have to think and live in global terms. One cannot look around him with a satisfied feeling that Nkll is well.N He must shape his thinking, his goals, his long range plan for the full and rich life in terms that make all world areas his immediate environment. Democracy is as strong as the character of those who speak in her nameg and men and women today are sometimes blind to the fact that the way they live shouts louder to the world than the fine speeches their representatives make at the conference tables. Your life today is never a private matter. It passes like a disease from person to person and nation to nation. If one does not live his life in accordance with high prinp ciples, he, like films, radio, television, press, books may contribute to the defeat of democracy. Sometimes poor ac- complishment is made glamorous by group approval. In the face of this, the discerning thinker must be steadfast in his efforts to Wleave the world a little better than he finds it.W The faculty and administration hope that they have helped you to form the basic philosophy you need to help solve the complex problems of the modern world into which you are enter- ing. May you be deserving of rich rewards as the Class of 1963 makes history in all corners of the world! Sincerely yours, Principal oomgws F-F SEN I ORB CLAQQEQ xxic:r1TfrneQ SPORTS gg l 5 H l 2-- DEDICAHON f Tl-I ANNUAL BNA! May 18, 1962-a date which belongs in history beside April 18, 1775, and November 11, 1918. Why? Because for the first time in 34 years the juniors reigned supreme on Class Day. Of course, it is no surprise that the juniors in question happen to be this year's Seniors-The Class of '63, But the Class of '63 will be remembered for much more than that. For instance, the originality and authenticity of the Camelot,' theme and decorations of the junior promg the trials of the magazine campaigng the sparkling success of You Can't Take lt with Young and the honor of having the highest number of students in P.H.S. history attend the courses at the college-17 out of 39 in the entire county! Yes, the Class of '63 is indeed proud of its achievements over these four years and hope they have set some sort of example for the incoming seniors. OUIZ FRIEND FROM ALBERT CONRAD KAMAU This year, the class of '63 welcomed to its ranks, a young man named Albert Conrad Kamau. Albert is a visiting student from Thika, Fort Hall District, Kenya. He arrived last August and has been staying with the Schlesinger family here in Plattsburgh. We enjoyed meeting Albert, getting to know him, and learning about his country, and we sincerely hope that he has enjoyed his year at PHS as much as we have enjoyed having him here. We are grateful to Albert for his contribution to the class of '63, and we will remember him with affection for many years to come. The 1962 Hornets' remarkable depth led 'Q them to the City Championship and second place in the Chaplain Valley li League. Starting pitchers Rick Fayard and Alan Rowlson are responsible 4 ll for hurling the Hornets to such a fine record. Also doubling on the V' if mound were Ray Dubuque and Jim Baker. Versatility was also shown i in the catcher's box by Tom Beauvais, Gary Golden, Paul Frankos, and .Q , Jeff Burns. Guarding the bases, Jack Premore, Gary Hector Ducquette 9 .2 5- 4 and Dave Malcolm were indispensable. All agree the season couldn't , j :gf v have met with success without the fielding of Mike Burke, Butch Gibeau, 5 and Gary Baker. These boys are just 15 reasons why we point with jf pride to our baseball team! ,YW The J.V. team gives us great hope for the future.
