Sports Day Program Begun by Lettermen’s Club In an effort to promote athletics at the elementary level and to em- phasize overall athletics at the junior and senior high school levels, the Lettermen’s Club sponsored the first annual Sports Day. Bill Gullickson of the Montreal Expos was the main speaker of the day, and well-known and experienced coaches from every sport were available for presentations and question-answer sessions. The event, held on Sunday, Nov. 23 in the PHS auditorium, drew a small crowd and in the future, the club hopes to influence more young, potential athletes with the continuation of this program. College Night Successful College Night, a program designed to introduce students to colleges, entrance exams, and financial aid programs, was held this year on Oct. 20 in the PHS cafeteria. All public state univer- sities and approximately 35 private institutions were represented. Fifteen out-of-state schools and or military academies were also available. The evening program, sponsored annually by the PHS Guidance Department, attracted students from various area schools and, again, turned out to be very successful. 16

“The Mouse That Roared” Page (Vicki Bellatiore) relays a message from the United States. The tiny Swiss duchy of Grand Fenwick, governed by Gloriana (Dee Bartholme) and her two ministers (Dan Ewing, Dave Adsit), has had its only means of economic support undermined by the USA. Gloriana's unique solution is to declare war on the USA to gain the aid, relief and rehabilitation that the USA always bestows on those countries it defeats. However, the US Secre- tary of State (Lane Mattix) considers the “Declaration” a prank. Gloriana escalates: her chief bowman and forest ranger Tully Bascom (Larry DeWitt) invades New York City, captures the “Q Bomb,” its maker (Mike Cleary) and several military personnel (Jim Barnes, Sandy Eddy and Sue Eddy). The U.S. President (Joel Lichtenwalter) realizes the Declaration is no hoax and sends the Secretary of State to Grand Fenwick to neg- otiate for peace. Gloriana informs Tully of his new duty for the country. Count Montjoy (Dan Ewing), Gloriana (Dee Bartholme), and Mr. Benter (Dave Adsit) discuss their country's fate. Bewildereo tourists (Jane Gove, Annette Hamby, Jeanette Gruber, Gayle Yahnke) turn to Tully Bascom (Larry DeWitt) for help. 17
