Kathy Hoffman and Liliana with Mrs. Plater in the Library Liliana in the Library Dear Friends, The American Field Service began during the First World War as an ambulance patrol and has grown through the years into a service which now sends thousands of students to and from the United States each year. As this year’s foreign exchange student, | have been given the opportunity to say a few words to you. | had the luck to spend the best year of my student life here in Plainfield. At first, | was frightened by so many un- familiar faces. After a short time, they became the faces of friends, and | was very happy. Someone once said, “Partir c‘est mourir un peu.” (To part is to die a little.) | find myself in a difficult situation. When we leave people we love, there is always a little experience or word remaining as a souvenir in our hearts. | am thankful to everyone: Mr. Gleason, Dr. Francis, my teachers and friends who have made my trip a wonderful one. | owe special thanks to my North American family, the Hoffmans, and my American sister, Kathy, with whom | felt very much at home. They loved me like their own daughter, and, because of this, | very seldom felt homesick. In Spanish when we say good-bye, we say “adios” and this means good-bye foreve r; | am not saying “adios” to you now, but “hasta luego”, see you later.
