Ae ek thn. ar Senior Class of 1965 Plainfield High School Plainfield, New Jersey PUREM LIBRARY, PLAINFIELD, Foreword On the completion of education at Plainfield High School, each of us will take a different path to reach our one ideal. The individual knowledge acquired and the vari- — ous experiences lived through will leave a lasting impression in the minds of every individual and will influence us when we choose our place in society. Though our dis- coveries in future years will con- stantly develop and grow, that education gained at Plainfield High School will become an im- planted stone, which worn and smoothed through the years, is molded into our sea of knowledge. Everyone of us will always carry the particular portion of education that he or she has gained. It may be only a small part of the person's being; but when these segments are molded together, they exist as the foundation of our high school. Contents Seniors Underclasses Activities vor — | $ i . = = a. Es | Just as a pebble hitting water causes the evocation of ripples, the faculty provides the inspiration which will affect the education of the students. Although this influential force may seem to end with a student's formal schooling, its effect will reach into the many phases of his life. Mr. Wallace Pre F. Gleason, Principal y Principal As the circle of life widens, so does the influence you have upon others. While you were in this school, you were given the opportunity to learn the important steps necessary for making wise decisions. Each year another circle was added. In this circle you included new friends. These people were attracted to you because of your pleasant personality, your understanding and willingness to help others. In this circle you included new ideas. These ideas enriched your life, for you found greater success with greater knowledge. The experiences you had as these circles grew larger helped to form a pattern for life. Your association with teachers and students guided your thinking in such a way as to help you to rich rewards. So it will be in life as you broaden your horizon. Look ahead to greater things. Reach for the stars and you will continue to improve. With all you have at your command, you should find satisfaction in life with a good family and a comfortable home. Wallace F. Gleason Mr. Gleason heartily congratulates Bob Ponzio on his election to the office of President of the New Jersey Association of High School Councils. Board of Education Dr. Jean Francis Vice-Principal Miss Nora Conahey Administrative Assistant Our foreign exchange student, Atsuko Tanaka, shakes hands with Board of Education member, Mr. David C. After three years in school, they have exper- ienced the various aspects of growing socially, culturally, and intellectually. When the ripples leave the immediate area of their origin, no one really knows how far they will go. Jn the same way, when the Seniors graduate, there is no way of knowing how far or in what direction their lives will take them. Fred David Adams, Jr. Bo . . . Military service ahead. Varsity Track 3. Having attended a private girls’ school in Kobe, Japan, Ako found Plain- field to be large, noisy, and crowded. She soon adjusted to the school, her Amer- ican family, the Fishers, and to life in Plainfield. Always cheerful, Ako finds plenty to keep her busy. A member of Drama Club, Pep Club, AFS, and King's Daugh- ters, she also manages to earn more than her share of 'A's'' and to make the Honor Roll. When Ako returns to Kobe, she will attend Konen Girl's College and major in English literature. Senior Class Council The Senior Class Council is responsible to the class of 1965 for making their final year a successful and rewarding one. The council supervised the Senior Play, drew up the traditional list of senior privileges and worked especially hard to make the Senior Prom the best ever. Our class officers, Joanne Lippman, Neil Dadd, Robin Kartagener, and Sally Bliss, deserve our thanks tor leading us in these undertakings. First row, left to right: E. Neilson; S. Bliss, treasurer; R. Goldstein, M. Kerslake, P. Ruggles, P. Leavitt, P. Vail. Second row: B. Schneekloth, J. Milley, B. Herzog, D. Hickey. 91 92 Class History 1965 In September, 1962, we began our Sophomore year with enthusiasm and spirit. After the first few weeks of confusion — learning names, wandering about the halls, and getting used to high school life — we settled down to serious studying with high hopes for the three years to come. Elections were held under the supervision of our class advisor, Mr. Sterling. Our competent officers were Richard Gleason, presi- dent; Sue Goldman, vice-president; Willow Krienke, secretary; and Roger Coven, treasurer. Our first financial venture as a class, the Sophomore Party, was very successful. Later in the year, class dues were instituted. Returning to PHS as juniors, the class of '65 was ready for another active year. We elected Jack Comune as our class presi- dent. Along with Jack, we elected Sue Goldman as vice-president, Robin Kartagener as secretary, and Buddy Herzog as treasurer. Once again, our treasury was filled by holding a Junior Dance and selling candy. In the Fall of 1964, the largest class in the history of Plain- field High School was beginning its final phase of high school life. Joanne Lippman was elected class president; Neil Dadd, vice- president; Robin Kartagener, secretary; and Sally Bliss, treasurer. Most of our time was spent filling out college applications and counting the days until graduation. Our senior play, ‘The Imaginary Invalid’ by Moliere, was not only a financial success, but it was praised as being one of the best plays ever presented in Plainfield High School. After the Hall of Fame elections in January, we really began to realize how little time we had left. The prom was held at the Washington House on June 5, 1965. This marked the end of the most important years of our lives. These years have ended, but they will not be forgotten. We may scatter all over the world and lead different types of lives, but the influence of our days in Plainfield High School will always be with us. and toil double, Double, trouble... “sy 4 a = Boy s 2 sc emenceiann Sais Cynthia Biondi, Buddy Herzog, Robin Kartagener, and Karen Huff display their mixed emotions. Like the first few undulations, these students will grow rapidly in their own unique way. Juniors JUNIOR CLASS COUNCIL First row, left to right: K. Yamas, B. Morrison, N. Ruter, President R. Those who attended enjoyed themselves greatly. This new Sophomore Class has begun somewhat more prepared than those preceding it. They already knew that there were no elevators and that the upperclassmen aren't really so bad. Class officers were not elected for this year, although a class representative was chosen. By doing this the students hope to learn more about government in the prospect of making their next two years at PHS more effective. I +. iFM) HOMEROOM 31 First row, left to right: M. Aiell, R.
