3 . -kt-k lt's difficult to believe in the future. ltis difficult to make ourselves believe in the better world of tomorrowgin the 6'Futura 4while we fight the .bitter en- tanglements of world conflict and world hatred. 1t,s difficult to believe that we must sail through violent seas of intense emotions and anxiety before we may finally come at rest in the harbors of peace, contentment, and sincere happiness. The fighting sons of freedom from the senior class must believe in the future of the 'gland of the freef' They must believe in the inevitable triumph of good over evil, of happiness over horror, of love over hate. They must believe, for theirs is the world. Theirs is the world! Theirs is the future for which the work, fi ht, and Y 3 live toda . The future belongs to them as it does to ever one of us. It's u J to Y Q- Y l us to build our f'Futura.', They,re men now. Jack, Vlfalt, Carl, Fred, Don, Bud, and all the others are really H1911 now. Yesterday any one of them might have been that kid in the back row throwing paper airplanes at the teacher, or the boy staying after school for a Happy Hour, or one of the fellows throwing snowtballs on the corner. Today, theyire well trained, highly efficient fighting men, but down in their hearts they're still boys-boys with great dreams. Those dreams are what will make our future. As long as men can look at the stars and make a wish, as long as a boy and a girl can stand together and dream, as long as men like those we have sent from Plainfield live, we shall never need to fear the future. To those fellows who have gone from the senior class to answer their country's call, we owe a great debt of gratitude. If it werenit for spirited fellows like them, many of us would not be fortunate enough to have the opportunity of continu- ing through secondary school and eventually bringing our whole educational training to a successful conclusion. Can we, who have been so fortunate, ever hope to reciprocate in full our great debt to those who have given up everything to fight our country's enemies? Page Fourteen
