Wye recollect the thought-provoking questions of an educator who believed that schools should provide more than the knowledge which can be gained from books. We recall a capable superintendent, working tirelessly to provide equal educational opportunity under a broad cultural program for every boy and girl in our community. We remem- ber a true friend who, believing in youth, gave himself unseliishly for our welfare. fnflff '

Principal WALDRO J. KINDIC B.S.Ed., Ohio State University MA., Columbia University cfnum ALMA MATER The first lines from the Alma Mater can be proudly claimed by thousands who once attended Plainfield High School. The common bonds of many memories of the classroom, the athletic field, and the assem- bly hall are cherished and everlasting. They are the result of the mutual interest and experience of the student and teacher that begin in guidance before entrance, are developed during the high school career, and continue for many years after leaving school. The guidance council, the teachers, and the entire school program are dedicated to the success of young people and their fu- ture. Personal programs are planned for each student, yet they change with the dis- covery of individual needs and abilities. Students are guided in the mastery of skills, the acquisition of information, the search for truth, the recognition of intelli- gent criticism, an appreciation of beauty, the development of good citizenship, and the interpretation of democracy, all integrated into a useful personality. The school continually reflects the social and economic viewpoint of the community and nation, which have made our school possible. This requires a continuous program of adjustment. Today our country is at war-the school reHects the needs of the day by alter- ing its program to meet the present situation-its curriculum, personal counseling of pros- Vice-principal HENRY R. HUBBARD BA., Harvard University pective inductees, installation of war effort activities, re-enrollment of young men re- turning from service, and assistance of vet- erans in their rehabilitation into civilian life. We are ever-mindful, however, of our charge to guard carefully in our school program the rich heritage of human ex- perience in a changing world for the years when we shall again live in a world of peace. We face a future made uncertain by fac- tors over which we have had little control. But squarely facing the situation of the day and courageously challenging the fu- ture, we live and plan with a profound faith in humanity, with faith in the ulti- mate happiness and peace that lie in the great potential power of human conscience and justice. This our alma mater must promise the youth of tomorrow. WALDRO J. KINDIG Page Eight
