How sweet it is thinks Coach Compton Crightj as he cuts the net after the Burros beat Avon in double overtime to win their first Sectional in 333 years. Pittsboro, the smallest school to emerge among the sectional champs, knocked off Monrovia C78-475, Plainfield Q50-393, and Avon Q70-695 to eam a chance to play in the Regionals. Pittsboro came from behind with team effort to win a storybook finish that will be remembered for years. The celebration which literally set the town on fire started when the team was met at the town limits by a police escort and were given a ride around town on the fire trucks. Then came the speechmaking during a pep rally in the gymnasium fupper rightl climaxed by a bonfire on the football field. The Bnrro fans still pour their heart and soul into keeping their support for the team at Hinkle flower leftl. EEUM Homecoming always provided a lot of excitement at Pittsboro. This year was no exception, there were so many things to do. The six candidates for Homecoming Queen were chosen from different organizations. Every- thing that is immobile was decorated with posters and school colors. The student body vibrated with excite- ment-anticipation of the retuming alumni and the basketball game. But alas, into each life some rain must fall and the Cascade team dampened our spirits by defeating us with a score of 67 to 57. The past being ended we must now look ahead to the future to the brighter horizons of next year's Homecoming triumph. Behind every Athletic Department is a group of students who comprise an organization called the pep block or the cheering sectionf, These students yell, scream, shout, and cheer their team to victory. Thus is the case of the cheering section at Pittsboro. Their loyalty and spirit at sporting events helped to bring many rewards to the school. They cheered the teams to a conference win in cross country, track, reserve and varsity basketball plus a great big sectional win for the school. To all the students and fans who cheered for Pittsboro, we say thanks for a job well done. 73 ? I fi. Cross Cammy Confbreizce Champs This year's Cross Country team was one of the best in the school's history, finishing with a record of nine wins against one loss and a tie. Experience was a key factor as the team was led by Seniors Dave Alexander, Larry Iohn- son, and jim Flowers. Iuniors were an important part of the team as Bill O'Connor, Tim Swain, jerry Love, and Tim Blacker often picked up points for the Burros. This year, Wes Alexander distinguished himself by finishing as high as fifth in four different meets. Included in this year's accomplishments were: a nine meet winning streak, capturing the Conference Cross Country Cham- pionship, and finishing third in the County Cross Country meet behind Plainfield and Brownsburg. Highlights for this year's team were David Alexander and Larry john- son who finished first and second in the conference meet for the second straight year. David Alexander won nine straight firsts. The harriers also competed in the Cross Country Sectionals, finishing a very respectable twelfth out of twenty-five teams. Larry johnson lead the team by finishing twenty-third. The team looks forward to next year with high hopes, but the loss of the three Seniors will be a big gap to fill. 1 Q pg .bu ' is g,vmI s-ww' fm G 9 ' M, r Q Ha: l l nm vii J K KN V 'un W i ......-hugs .. , j .H .
