These Teachers Also Helped 'Muni Hartsel Newell, B.S., M.S., attended Indiana State Uni- versity. Mr. Newell is the Guidance Director of Pittsbor Lizton, and North Salem. He listened patiently to the students with their troubles on colleges and schooling. Mr. Newell and his wife have two children. on John Osborne, A.B., M.S., Earlham College, Butler Uni- versity, taught math, science, chemistry, and physics. He was the Honor Society sponsor. Mr. Osborne led the way in showing the students how to prepare for a future in science. Larry Sparks, B.S., M.S., Indiana State University, taught drivers' training and social studies. He and his wife have two children. They reside in Pittsboro. Mr. Sparks has taught at Pittsboro for nine years. Eileen Thompson, B.A., Ball State University, taught high school English. She was the senior play director. Mrs. Thompson has been at Pittsboro for two years. She and her husband reside in Speedway. They have one daughter, Robin. Betty Leak, B.S., Purdue University, taught home ec. classes from 7th through 12th grades. Mrs. Leak took the junior and senior home ec. classes to the Home Show at the State Fairgrounds. She and her husband have five children. They reside in Lizton. Vinton Mack, B.A., B.S., Marion College, taught music to grades 1 through 8 at Pittsboro. He also taught at Lizton. Charleen Purdy, B.S., University of Eastern Kentucky, taught the typing and shorthand courses at PHS. She also has been a Sunshine Society sponsor for the past three years. She has two children. Lee Ross, B.S., Indiana State University, taught her first year at PHS. She taught health, general science, and biology. val 34

Ardee Helm, Jr., B.S., Indiana University. Bookkeeping, jr. High Math, and Business Law. Mr. Helms wife, Gloria, taught first grade. The Helms are the parents of two boys. Jeff Boles, Stetson University, Florida, Butler University. Mr. Boles taught speech, psychology, general math, Eng- lish, and 6th grade geography. He is now attending In- diana University for his law degree. Mr. Boles has taught at Pittsboro for two years. He's married and has two children. Kay Cavanaugh, Girls' P.E., Grade health, GAA Sponsor. I Homey Vaziri, B.A., Private School in West Lausanne, Switzerlandg Ball State University. Mr. Vaziri is a world traveler and speaks several languages. He was born in Iran. He taught Spanish and French at PHS. He also taught Spanish at North Salem. Mr. Vaziri and his wife, Sue, are the parents of two sons. They reside in Indianapolis. Gordon Wheatley, B.M., B.M.E., M.S., was the band and choral director. He attended Indiana University. He and his wife have one son. They live in Pittsboro. Robert Williams, B.S., attended Indiana Central Col- lege. He taught history. Bob was the reserve coach of PHS basketball team, and the junior sponsor. He is ' married and has one daughter. They, too, livein Pitts- boro. Others Handled Pains, Problems, and Pans Kathleen Duffy, R.N., Methodist Hospital. Mrs. Duffy, the public school nurse, has served the school for three years. Betty Niggel. Busy as a bee is Betty Niggel, the school secretary. She kept records of the extracur- ricular activities. She is the sponsor of six office gws this year. V . Early in the morning the cooks started preparing the meals for some 400-500 students . By 12:30 the cafeteria was empty and the cooks were ready to close shop and get ready for the next day.
