A popular activity after football and basketball games is the after-game dance, supported by many active Titans. Popular bands like the Sheratons and the Exiles helped in making these dances suc- cessful. Again this year the Fling v as held, in which swimming, dancing, folk music and gomes as well as pizza made up the schedule of events for the evening. MarguerKa Nobetta Pioneer was proud to hove such a charm- ing Honorary Princess as Shino, our foreign exchange student from Peru. Teree S+emmler Janet Baker Jonef has been very active on drill team, as a flagster, and on council, in her four years at Pioneer. Kathy Stelmer Kathy has been active on drill team, as head flagster, and as a class officer, while at Pioneer. She was also chosen as an Hon- or Guard. Tanyo Naiaroff Tanya is an enthusiastic supporter of all Titan games, dances, and activities. She was chosen as an honor guard by last year ' s Senior class. 21

Variety Is Keynote of Titan Assemblies At left: Cultural assemblies were introduced this year as a new type of entertainment tor the students. Seen here is Bill Burbon who brought his troupe of dancers to Pioneer for an enjoyable hour of Mexican folk songs and dances. Center left: During the Oriental assembly, two volunteers, Andy Solis and Reuben Fuentes attempted a few of the intricate steps demonstrated by the Oriental dancers. Bottom right: One highlight in our cultural assemblies this year was an ancient Aztec dance done by Florencio Yescas who performed with a magnificent headpiece made of feathers. Students from Los Nietos Jr. High were invited to attend this special assembly. Below: Bertram Shurtleff demonstrates one of the benefits of keeping fit at the Wrestling Revelations Assembly. Mr. Shurtleff asked two of the huskiest boys on campus, Ken Welbe and Ed Thomas, to stand on his mid section in an effort to em- phasize muscular control.
