In the Earth Sciences this rock collection labeled “Nature's Work Underground won first place. Jackie Haiglcr prepared this exhibit. Pat Ray's scale model of the solar system won first place in the Senior Physics Division. This outstanding exhibit also won the grand prize of the school fair, first in math and second in senior papers at the District Fair, and second in astronomy in the State Science Fair. Skipper” Scallan won second place in Biology with his Digestive System of Animal Riyla. First place in Physical Science was won by C. J. Cavanaugh. His project was a telephone. In the Junior Chemistry Division, David Colvin and Virginia Stagg won second place with a model of a sulphur mining operation. This exhibit won first in social science in the District Fair in Natchitoches and won first in Geology in the State Fair in New Orleans. II ■ 'XU X »

Zke Science 'Department In Dixie, as well as in other parts of the United States, there is a growing interest in science because of the demands of this technical age. In keeping with this trend, each year our Science Department sponsors a Science Fair. Every student who takes science prepares an exhibit. Professors from nearby colleges are invited to be the judges, and they award the ribbons. Winning exhibits are then entered in the District Fair and the State Science Fair. Our students have prepared some outstanding projects which are pictured on the following page. MR. CLAYTON BULLARD B. S., La.
