,917-1?. DEDICATIO The word DEDIC ATION is often used to describe someone who gives of themself, their time, love and friendship. It is in keeping with this that we have chosen to dedicate our Yearbook to a woman who does much more than is asked of her in teaching. A woman who is always there, with ready hands and a kind glance, spending long hours during and after school, teaching our students at Pine Junior High. In her youth, lVlrs. Emmons was very active in school. In high school she played on the winning basketball team in the Sedgwich County Championship for girls. In lVlrs. Emmons' sophomore year, her team was entered in the National Basketball Tournament which was held in Wichita, Kansas in the April of 1929, as the Nlulvane Windblowns. This name resulted from the hairstyle the Windblown because all the members wore their hair in this manner. lVlrs. Emmons also participated in two high-school plays, taking the part of the comedian in the Junior Class play and the lead in the Senior Christmas Play. Nlrs. Emmons' enthusiasm for interesting activities has carried over to present day. She is now active in the Brylintia Business and Professional Women's Club, Mobile Home Park Activi- ties, Chairing the 1976 Fourth of July celebration, Christmas Programs and serving as Secretary and Treasurer of her Square Dance Club. By the year 1942 lVlrs. Emmons was finally able to fulfill a lifelong ambition-going to college and becoming a teacher. Thus she started long years of work and study. Altogether, five years of teaching in Kansas, sixteen years in Iowa, and another in Kansas before coming to California. In 1977 she is concluding thirty-two years of teaching, most of which have been happy years teaching students skills that will help them in the next years of school and in their later lives. It is with great Respect, Admiration, Gratitude, and Affection that we, the Yearbook Staff of 1976-77 dedicate our book, Eclipse, to Nlrs. Grace Emmons, a wonderful human being, who is indeed a shining star in her own light.
