D DIC TIO In June, the PINE ISLAND sailed for the Western Pacific to join the Seventh Fleet. While the Ship was deployed to the Far East, We were separated from our families. The hardships of these separa- tions were not felt by the members of the Ship's Company alone, but by the members of the families remaining at home as Well. By shouldering additional responsibilities at home during the Ship's deployment, through understanding and encouragement, the members of our families assisted us during this period of separation. The PINE ISLAND Families, therefore, played a very vital part in helping to make this cruise a successful one.
