Y- r N DIVISION s The NN . Division, composed of quartermasters and signalmen, is the group charged with navigation of the ship and sending and receiving of visual signals. Aptly dubbed the top side sailor , they operate mainly in the pilot house and on the signal bridge. The pre-commissioning group consisted of Lt. M. R. Waldow,a Division.OffiCer Navigatorg O. Hill, who, by virtue of the fact that he was the lone signalman, really had his hands fullg and. Chief Boswell, Spicer, Croke,-Routley and Reid, all rated QMS or strikers. f e g . N Division at the- time of -recommissioning was the ON Division and' came under Operations Department. However, on 1 February, it became N Division when the Navy Department made Navigation a separate department. Lt. Waldow now serves as both Division Officer and- department head. , ' I A number of strikers, including McKee, Bush, Olivieri, Garretson, Kiess.-Waddell, Thomas, and Backus, QM2. soon reported' aboard to alleviate the over-worked conditions. jack L.
