FGREWORD On J une 25, 1950, the forces of tyranny, dictatorship, and evil power again were unleashed upon the free nations of the World. .As was characteristic, of the Japanese and Germans during their World War IL,attack, the Communist Reds in Korea failed to anticipate the righteous indignation and the rousing power of the democratic freepeoples represented in tlfe United-Nations, The men who had served duringthe last conflict, the Weapons of destruction, and the ships of the United States Navy responded. The ffee nations were saying to the World that aggression against the innocent peoples Will not be tolerated ll The control of the sea again became paramount. Our men. and supplies had to be moved many thousands of miles in order to meet fthe enemy. The Navy again had to be expanded. Ships Were activated, deployed, manned by Navy veterans of another War, again ready to stand fast for freedom. The Pine Island Was one of these vessels. Its men vvere these veterans. Its mission was to support aerial operations against the enemy. Our Planes have operated over the Yellow Sea, The Sea of Japan, The China Sea and the Formosan Straits. , . I The Pine Island has been relieved on station. New squadrons are in the air. Its men will visit their families, the ship be readied for return. ' The fight forrfreedom is never ended. The Pine Island Will return, but in so doing will leave its loved ones safe from tyranny and aggression. That is what We are fighting for. ' I' III
