X DIVISION It is a foredrawn conclusion that it takes a lot of' paper to 'float-this man's Navy. To keep this huge fighting' outfit knit together andfunctioning smoothly, there must- be, a complicated and exact system of records and reports. To keep this system operating, there must be yeomen, personnelmen and printers. Whenever a question arises concerning forms, records, reports, promotions, leave, liberty 'or the whereabouts of .so-and-so, ask the yeornan or perS05ne1inan,. If it is. printing, in offset oriletterpress, see the printers, they can solve any problem. f ' Some of the most worn phrases such as What's the hot scoop? , What's the latest dope? , When are the Reverves getting out? , etc., 'are like ia broken record to the men of the X Division. A Information 4 Station, better known as the are around the Executive Ofiicerls Office and Captain's Office, is constantly filled with a milling crowd and often takes on the appearance of Grand Central Station. i V Needless to say, the waste baskets that -have. been carried from the offices daily have contained a great -deal 'of gray hair. More near-bald heads appear daily, h ' schedules' leave computation, what with the new p asrng , advancement, examinations, dependency, discharge requests, etc. - lt has not been easy for the men of the X Division during these months since the Pine Island has been in commission, but even under these adverse conditions, a certain amount of order-and sanity has been maintained. ltlavould appear from the foregoing that the problems and 'iiivorkfoii the clerical personnel never end, but int spiteof all the trials and tribulations, the men of the ,1,f'ic Div1S1g'Qt1iry to keep a happy disposition and an occasional hfsmile-Qespecially forthe people who 'bofhei them the least. 17

i OC DIVISION y The OC Division that gets out the Word around the clock-is composed of a total of 43 men, 40 in Main Communications Cradio shack? and three men in- the Ship's Post Office. The original complement of the division was solely Reserves with only one excejiition. Fifteen: were rated mailmen, most of Whom 'rapidly fitted themselves for other duties within the division. LtJG. R. G. Whitmore was the original Division Officer, being relieved in April by Lt. I. Stanley Nants, Jr. y 'Most of the division personnel were assigned temporarily to the staffs of ComFairWing Six in Japan and later to ComFairWing One While in the Ryukyu - Formosan area. A Th-e three men assigned to the Post Office ha-ve done a magnificent job in keeping the mail flowing and figure that they have dispatched enough souvenirs Stateside to stock a department store.
