LAWRENCE LARRY HAND-co-captain, and worthy of the position-also center of our championship team. Larry could be counted on for no fewer than eight points a game. He has the playing ability and the iight which makes basketball players. He helped to control the bankboards for our championship team. A boy who would never quit when the going was tough '- a hard player and a great sport. RICHARD DICK SPITTLERf-co-captain-played the position of running guard. Sports writers, coaches, and fans have voted Dick for the All-Star Team of Schuylkill County. Anyone who saw Dick in action would agree that he deserved this praise and such a note- worthy 'athletic honor. Dick was a small boy, but he was a main factor in our fast-breaking offense. Dick was also voted Outstanding Player in the Class B First Annual Crippled Children's Tournament of Schuylkill County. HARRY DUFF KRAMER-back or stationary guard, whose outside shooting couldn't be stopped. A junior who will be back to give his services to P. G. H. S. next year. He was a boy who took a physical beating in a game, but came through to do his best for his team. ROBERT BOB MACHAMER-a junior who played right forward. A very good natural shot. When Bobby was on there was no stopping him. His points really counted in the big game of the year. Bobby will be back to play and score for our Alma Mater next year. ROBERT SNEEZY SNYDER - our left forward '- a big boy with red hair. Sneezy was a regular and played his part in our winning that big game. He got there when it counted. His height was used to great advantage under the basket. A senior - a sport and a champion. ROBERT LEMON LEHMAN- another of our long and lanky boys. He also played forward position, trading with Sneezy and Machamer. Lemon missed our big game, but still deserves credit for our being a finalist in the play-offs. GEORGE HIKES- Dagwood, as the boys called him. the speed demon of our varsity, could play any position with equal amount of perfection. He was a sub, but he was a good one. George showed us some good games near the end of the season, and he played his part in our championship game. A senior - also a two-sport man. ALLEN 'ABOZOH FELTY - a junior who will probably be first string guard next season. Bozo wasn't a fast man, but he was a lighting one who could get rebounds. He is tall and built well and plays a very good defensive. Saw a great deal of I.-V. action. CONNIE SPITTLER-another junior, one of our speedy boys, and one of the boys who saw a great deal of I.-V. action. Next year will see Connie with our varsity regulars. ROBERT EMERICH -a junior who didn't see much action in varsity ball, but played almost all the I.-V. games. He can play the pivot well and also can take those rebounds. League Champions for the Fourth Time The past basketball season was a successful one in every respect. Carmine Pepe's Grovers went through to win the highly prized championship. This has been the fourth championship in live years. Last year we won first place and then went into District playoffs to suffer defeat from a strong Weatherly quintet. Our line of pennants is still unbroken from 1943 to 1948. Our boys put forth their best eEort and won. They played championship ball almost all year long. They have a fine record which will be hard to beat in the future. We hope next year's team carries on the tradition of gaining that championship pennant and trophy. There is a quotation in the coach's office, which if they remember, should help them to win, or at least to do their very best: A Winner Never Quits and a Quitter Never Wins. Mighty Grovers Triumph in Crippled Children's Tourney Pine Grove High's quintet were double champions this year when they captured the Class B First Annual Crippled Children's Tournament Championship. Pine Grove came out victori- ous over a Gilberton High quintet by the score of 60 to 29. The admission fees went for the benefit of the Crippled Children of Schuylkill County - a very worthy cause. .-57.-1

V. quin- tet. A fast break artist and a very good ball handler. Bobby took the ball from many a guard who wasn't wary. A'Bobby also saw some varsity action this past year and did well. Bobby probably will be first string forward next year on the varsity. PAUL GOOEY LEHMAN'-fa tall, lanky boy who played center for the I. V.'s. Paul is only a freshman, but he did remarkable playing which will carry him next year to first string varsity ball. He could get those rebounds and really could play that post. WILLIAM BILL MILLER-a junior who played I. V. ball all year long. Bill didn't score so many points, but was a main factor in our defense. Next year Bill will be seen playing varsity ball. RICHARD DOC SNYDER- a running guard for our I. V. chargers-a good ball handler and rebound man. Doc got there when it counted. RONALD MERKEY-a sophomore who saw considerable action. Ronald was our left-handed forward of the I. V.'s. He is a good shot and can be counted upon for points when they count. . .-59.-1
