The l970-7l Pacemaker was put out by
Mrs. Osburn's third hourjournalism class,
which did a commendable job throughout
the year in the assembling of this paper.
There were some line articles published in
the way oi' sports and other school activities
that were informing as well as enjoyable to
read. The paper also promoted student inter-
est and class competition when they had the
"ugly leg contest." Thank-you for a great
year, Pacemaker. You've done il all.

What is a yearbook?
. . . lt's an album of memories of the past year,
memories that will cling forever.
. . . lt also serves as an autograph book where
all those dear unforgettable friends offer
you "best wishes."
. . . lt may contain a cheerful remembrance or
a tearful one.

What purpose is an editorial to serve in a yearbook? What am I supposed to
say when it's all done? Despite the fact that l hate nostalgic sentiments, is this
what an editorial consists ol? Am l required to recount all the frustrations,
disappointments and exasperations? What of the surprise, joy and relief experi-
enced when the mats are all finished and the 1971 Pirate Log becomes the pub-
lishing company's headache. They must now try to make sense out of the bent,
erased and sliced mats, groan over our grammatical and typographical errors and
decode our chicken-scratching directions. The Hnished product finally appears
and in a complete catatonic state you wonder if that beautifully bound lavender
and white colossus is the same MESS you sent out three months ago.
All kidding aside, being on the high school yearbook staff is an experience
few will forget. l'm sure the whole staff enjoyed publishing a yearbook dedicated
to the "People" of this school, in spite of seemingly overwhelming problems. At
times tempers flared, mistakes were made, and the despair of ever making the
deadlines was a common attitude. However, we made it, and we hope you like it!
