Mr. C. L. Smith has shown us what a grand person he can be. His pleasing smile and down-to-earth philosophy have become a cherished part of our school life. His services to the school will be remembered by many graduating classes, but we feel that it is especially appropriate that this class show some measure of appreciation at the end of his twenty-fifth year of maintaining our buildings and grounds. The dedication of the 1956 Knob Whispers is our way of saying, Thank you, Mr. Charlie!”

On our little high school campus, surrounded by the trees, Some lessons we have learned which do not come from books — From our classroom windows, each eager student sees The glory of the autumn, how lyric springtime looks. And the years we spent in learning are pictured by the leaves; As bracing autumn paints them red and brown and gold. One by one they flutter down, and snow drips from the eaves — The mighty structure of the tree stands bleak and stark and cold. And then again bright springtime comes, ushered by the sun; The tree of learning quickens with burgeoning sap grown rife; The green and tender leaf buds mean appearing one by one, Like graduation day for us, commencement of new life. —MELBA Y.
